I purchased a white gold sapphire ring at Diamonds International while on a Carnival Legend Cruise in September, 2007, to Belize. It was a gift for my daughter's birthday.

Within the first couple weeks of wearing, a stone came out and that is when the fun began. After numerous calls to Diamonds International, I finally received return shipping information to send the ring back to their NY location for repair/replacement. This was November 13, 2007.

After numerous calls, which were either not returned or being told that the person I dealt with no longer worked for the company, I received the ring back (after 4 months) on March 10th, 2008. My daughter wore the ring to work one day and the stone fell out again. The stone obviously was not a sapphire as it had clear spots in it and the glue job was evident.

I am thoroughly disgusted and it is not worth my blood pressure to go through sending this ring back again. The ring is inferior and my only satisfaction at this point would be a complete refund of my money. Carnival should not promote this business if they are not going to follow up on problems that their guests have. I work too hard for $600. to be thrown down the drain. My advice to anyone is to not use Diamonds International for your jewelry purchases.

Little Fish Thrown Back To Save Face

Dear Elaine: You were too small a fish so they threw you back. Why? Because you had the wisdom to put a report on RipOff Report. Way to go Elaine! Way to go RipOff Report! I am pretty sure Diamonds International was not being fair or generous towards you -just rational and prudent. How bad do they look taking $600.00 from some poor woman who tried to buy a nice gift says she works too hard for her money just to lose it for crap goods? With all the other negative press about DI all over the internet, why would they not want to get a little bit of damage control for very little money? What was their profit on your $600 ring--$300 maybe? So they gave back $300 and created an impression that perhaps they are not scammers after all. Don't' believe it. I bet they got you to agree to put up the update, before they refunded your money. It took you six months. Plus, why would you totally change your impression? You just got back to where you should have been in the first place--with your money in your pocket? They restored your confidence cause you finally got your money back and a lot of aggravation to boot? I don't think so. Maybe Diamonds International didn't even do anything and it was the credit card company that finally processed your charge back. Elaine, how about another update to answer these questions? I say this because DI could care less if people are disgusted. I have expressed how disgusted am to Isaac, 800-515-3935 Ext 1562, and he simply says it's the company policy. He claims there is nothing he can do unless I jump through his hoops and go to an independent lab etc etc. We already have an appraisal from a certified gemologist that the ring is inferior in every category to what was stated at time of purchase. A third appraisal just allows endless discussion of all the differences. I know it will lead nowhere. The DI protocol is part of the scam. The company policies and protocol are a scammers' technique. Do this. Do that. Wait. Problem 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Consumers can't succeed by working with DI. They get tired and frustrated and further aggravated and demeaned because they will never be able to satisfy the terms and conditions and the subjective determination of the company representative. That representative will always conclude that a refund is not deserved. A slight difference in the ring is subjective. Take the ring out of its setting its adulterated in violation of terms and conditionsleave the stone in and you can't accurately examine or weight the stone. You didn't make your claim soon enough. The answer will always be, NO for some reason. The reason for this is the company intent is malevolent. People need to know that at the outset or they will fail when they try for an accord and satisfaction with DI. After my first conversation with Isaac I wrote to him, Your attitude with me shows that you are a studied scam artist. Your assurances to me that you have defeated dozens of these claims and get them all the time' is really an admission of your confidence in your fraudulent enterprise. Your assurance to me that I am wasting my time because you have been victorious in all disputes, even those with the Attorney General, shows that your goal is to defeat not evaluatethis claim. In a later conversation when I told Isaac that I wanted him to understand I had no intention of allowing him to jerk me around endlesslythat I was on to his malevolence in negotiating and asking me to get an independent lab to appraise the ring, he screamed an offer to me to take a store refund in ten seconds. Then he counted to ten going more quickly at the end. At 8 I mentioned the owner's name and hung up. In a later conversation when I told Isaac I was not going to follow his advice and start a new meaningless and no doubt endless dialogue with DI's legal department Isaac again screamed an offer allowing me 10 seconds to agree to take the telephone number of the legal department, then counted to ten and hung up. I wrote Isaac after that: I decline to allow you to waste more of my time. You can take your time to talk to legal. Every time I speak to you, I become more certain in my belief that your company has a system that is exploitative and demeaning to customers. Your anger and shouting and attack of every thing I say in support of Sandi's request for a refund is malevolent. The last time I waited for your reply you came back with: You were going to get her local jeweler in hot water because of his poor appraisal? The ten second countdowns and lashing out at our jeweler (certified appraiser) are ridiculous notions and kind a funny. But, what is not funny is the mind-set in making the threat that I better accept silly offers in ten seconds or else. Or else what? No refund? Isaac already told me I would never get a refund so that can't be it. Unless he intends to take away my First Amendment right by silencing me somehow, there can be no or else. Shutting people up requires murder or mayhem, and I certainly would hope that's not the solution he has in mind over a dispute involving a few thousand or even ten or fifteen thousand dollars. Let go of the profit Golem-its making you ugly. I have also written to Isaac: And so were you true to your word. Each time I have granted you a courtesy and given you time to consult the other people that you say you need to consult [about the refund], you have wasted my time and come back with more folderol. So people, consumersthe American public, needs to know at least two things: 1) That they should not be buying jewelry on cruise ships; and 2) If they bought from you [Diamonds International] and are dissatisfied, then working with you is just a waste of time and a spiral into being further demeaned and insulted and attacked. People need to understand how not to work with Diamond International, but against them. The distinction is crucial. Elaine, you did the right thing publishing on RipOff Report. Congratulations.
