So first off Directv failed to tell me that I was in a ONE year contract when signing up for service. My bill has NEVER been the same and I have had to call them EVERY month since I got service. After service was added, one of my roommates called in to Directv and added a DVR to my account. I was not aware that this was added to my account. This addition to my account put me in a 24 month contact. Furthermore, another DVR was added to my account a month later which I again was unaware of, and in turn added ADDITIONAL months to my contract. I called directv to cancel service due to the fact that I was moving home. They told me then that I was in a 24 month contract and I would need to pay for each month that was left. I told them that I was not aware of this and that I did NOT add the DVRs to my account. A representative told me that if someone calls in and can verify my name, address, and phone number that they can make changes. Well HELLO...it was my roommate and obviously they know those 3 things. My friends from other states know that info and according to a Rep, they could make a change as well. I spoke with a manager and was given the same info. I have fought with them for HOURS on the phone. I work in the industry where my company provides services to the community and a change CANNOT be made to an account without notifying the account holder. Directv NEVER contacted me about the changes made to my account. I was then told that the 24 month contract was signed when the equipment was brought to my home. I tried to explain to the Reps and the Managers that I talked to that I WAS NOT home to sign this contract. Furthermore, I was then told that it is not in the paperwork and that it was a VERBAL contract. So which is it? Why are they lying to everyone? This is just a scam. AND BELIEVE ME...EVERYONE I have talked to that say they want to get Directv...I tell them its a scam. I contacted the FCC about the issue and the FCC told me that they don't regulate Directv. What laws do they actually follow? The manager told me the FCC regulates them. POINT IS...Directv is AWFUL...customer service is AWFUL...the reception in the home is AWFUL!

I do see where you are coming from - however, both DVRs were placed in my 2 roommates rooms. And to be honest, I don't EVER see my roommates, much less go in their rooms. They are strictly that...my roommates...not my friends that I hang out with. One of them doesn't have a job, so he is there all the time. I, on the other hand, I'm never home. So with me never being home, how am I suppose to know when someone comes to install another cable line. As far as the bill goes, I wouldn't have noticed the difference in price because my bill hasn't been correct since the first bill I received. And as far as you saying that most companies extend your contract out for any changes made to an account -- My company provides services like cable, internet and phone. We don't require a contract for our services nor do we add a contract on when they change their account. We are also AT&T reseller and if a customer makes a change to their AT&T account - their contract is not extended either. To me, the contract issue is stupid and fullish. Directv says they put you in a contract in order to lower prices which is not the case -- they put you in a contract because they are aware of how much their services suck. So, if a customer is in contract and wants to cancel they are getting their years worth of money either way. And I see how you say he should put it in his name. He would never put it in his name...he wouldn't even put his name on the lease. However, I refuse to pay directv anymore of my money and I switched to cable. My roommates agreed to pay for directv, but that doesn't help me out when I'm still in a contract at the end of the lease. I have contacted the Better Business Bureau and FCC about all of it, so it's being handled.

I understand that you are very disgruntled about the contract you are in. I guess I have not had this problem with Directv yet. My main question was how were you not aware of the DVR's being added to your contract? Did your roommate hide them in his room, and since there were two where was the other one put at. I am by no means trying to insult you but look at it from Directv's point of view. One house ordered two DVR's at which point another line had to be run to the cable boxes as that is how the DVR's work which typically means that you need to have a special install for the extra cable line. "I know because I had to pay for this also" and on top of this how did you not see the bill go up for the additional service? Then back to the contract yes it does suck about reupping a contract but at the same time just about any company does this. Cell phones, Cable, Satelite all of them state that if you make changed to your contract then you reup the contract. Personally I would be speaking to your possibly former roommate and see if there is any way you can transfer that account to his name. I mean if he was willing to order the stuff why shouldn't he be big enough to pay for it. Just my two cents PS. I DO NOT WORK FOR DIRECTV, I am however a customer.
