A few months ago I moved and cancelled my tv service and decided to try direct tv. I called them up and set up an appointment for installation and at no point was I told that there was a two year contract nor did I sign or agree to a contract. The guy came out and installed two of the three receivers (was in a hurry to go home)and said that I could just call tech support and they could walk me through the initialization of the third receiver. I did so and the system had problems.

I called the office and asked for someone to come out and fix it as well as performing a wall fish. A guy came out (late) and was not prepaired to do the wall fish so he said he would come back at another time and do both things then and left. Again I called to complain and to shorten up a bit, This went on several more times. I would take off of work and wait, they would either not show or couldn't do the work I requested.

After calling again and being hung up on twice I decided I had had enough. I called and finally reached a person and proceeded to cancel my service. I requested boxes to return the equipment and was told once the receivers were returned I would have a zero balance. I agreed and sent the receivers back and then started getting calls from the collection agency saying that I owed$222.45. During these calls they would scream at my wife or myself and when I tried to explain they would continue to scream and I told them I was disputing the charge.

They have sent me a bill for early cancellation of a contract I never signed or agreed to. These people are crooks and should be dealt with as such. My dispute was sent to an internal dept. and I received a letter stating almost the same nonsence that the collection lady was spewing, they have not listened to me at all and the letter did not even have a direct tv employee signature. These people just avoid you until you give in.

Anyway, This charge has now appeared on my wifes credit report and I can not reach a competent person at direct tv that is willing to listen. Has anyone had something like this happen to them and what can I do?
