I've only seen a couple of Dish Network contract in my 13 years of being a Dish Network Dealer. They were different form the ones i print off from their website. But the ones i print out clearly state at the top That you have 2 choices the free 2 year commitment and the 99.00 non commitment . That the customer has to place their initials on one or the other.
At times their is some much information i have to give the customer . that they are overwelmed. i always try to give a blank copy of the contract and invoice to the customer. So that they can read it over before i take their information to run it for the promotion.
For those I'm able to do that for. I try to get them to read it before i get their signature. But about 95% don't seem to want to read anything. i really cant understand this. because i think they are about the easiest contracts to read. it explain about the cancellation fee.
But what really gets me that the customer is more interested in getting it free and installed and that is all the care about. until a problem developes and then they care.
I've got a less than 1 % turn off rate of new customer turn on's. You don't get this by lying to people. But on the other hand I'm not perfect and I have made some mistakes. I had to pay for thoses mistakes. I've always tried to be honest with the customer. Tell them to call around and read the contract. I've told people not to trust me or anyone else .
Because the last line in your defense . Is your ability to stop and take the time to read what you are signing. So i don't know if you had read it. Or which version of the contract you read ( Dish Networks or a Dealers copy ).
1) when ever possible get a blank copy just before you decide to install the satellite. But these can change at anytime without warning. So read the one you have to sign . Before the installer leaves you home . To make sure their isnt any changes.
2) Don't sign anything until the work is preformed and the install is done. when your happy with everything. If that means they have to come back and make it right. Then sign it when they come back and make you happy. Theirs been times i had to go back the next day. To complete a job and then get the customers signature. Really it isn't that hard to do.
3) Do your research online and by calling around. It never hurts to see if your getting the same info. We the dealer do have guidelines we have to go by. All you got to do is ask family , friends or neighbors . anyone who as a satellite system .
I've been in the satellite business for 26 years now. The little dishes are really simple to install over the big satellite systems. But Dish Network service techs can't even work on the simpelist installs i do. Let alone trying to get them to understand the more complicated ones i do. When you go out to a fancy steak house. Would you want the guy from the fast food chain cooking your meal.It is your money that your spending. Don't you want it done right the first time.
I'm not the only dealer who is out there. That knows what they are doing. I've got customers who think more of me as a member of their family. Than they do of me as their satellite dealer.
I dont know what the laws are in your state. But the last i knew in Oklahoma the customer only had 3 business days to cancelled a contract. But don't take my word for it ask a lawyer. Because were required by Dish Network to give a 6 month installation warranty. But according to the Oklahoma state law. That anything installed on a roof of a home . The installer has to warranty thier work for a year. The contract might say one thing. But a state might have something different to say about it. James from Oklahoma
