Complaint Review: Donald Odell - Chicago Illinois

Add my 17 year old to the list of people scammed in July 2014 by ODell (Or O'Dell.)  My kid, unbeknownst to us, went to a WalMart and wired ODell $300.  My husband and I found out when ODell asked for the remainder of the money and we said No.  At the time, ODell was "in Florida on business."   You know the rest of the story - no Lallo tix, no ODell. (And yes, we had a long talk about Internet fraud with our son.) 

We want to get the money back and put ODell in jail. Here is a suggested plan for all of us to work together, without compromising our privacy. 

The woman who posted as "Norine" on this thread, you are a CPD mom? Can you please post: 

1) The name of the CPD precinct where you filed your police report on ODell? Give us the name of the officer AND - most importantly, the Report No. (You do not need to post your personal information here - just the police contact info so we can compile one BIG report on ODell.)

2) Everyone on this post can then call the officer to add to ONE report. This increasese the odds the CPD will get a warrant on this guy and get the State's Attorney to file enough charges to stick. 

3) I have contacted Craigslist's legal department. ODell used a computer to file his post for Lallo tix. If the CPD files a report, we can trace ODell through the computer's ISP (it is like an electronic fingerprint.) 

Let's share information on ODell. Here is the address he gave my son: 

Donald ODell, 4435 Sawyer Ave, Chicago, IL 60632 (312) 402-7464. Money was wired from a WalMart. As of this morning, the mailbox is full, but texts are NOT coming back so maybe it's still a good number. 

P.S.  - ODell, if you are reading this - we will pursue this until we get our money and you go to jail. 

Waiting to hear back from my bank on where my check to "Donald Odell" was deposited.  Hopefully that will add more meaning to the police report I file.  Looks like we have enough people to build a strong enough complaint/case.  I would think the first step is to respond to the CL ad from the first victim so he can build a strong contact list.  Feel free to add more Consumer Comments for suggestions on how to get the money back.  I tried to file a claim with my bank - no luck.  The best they can do is give me the information on where the check was deposited.

 Pretty much the same story.  Gave him a $200 check up front and he provided the ID with bogus address (he was evicted from there a couple years ago for not paying rent).  When it came time for him to deliver, he said he was out of town and said I could mail him a check for the rest and his wife would mail the wristbands.  I told him I'd wait for him to get back, and he then became very unresponsive and stood me up on the day we were supposed to meet.  He called back when I threatened to go to the police and he acted all innocent and said he had some sort of family emergency and would give me my money back.  Haven't heard from him since.  Saw on the news that someone filed a police report, so going to go to the police station to also file and let them know there are many others.  What a scumbag.

I was also scammed by Donald Odell and sent him my deposit in late April. I paid him $550 for two tickets to lollapalooza and never recieved them. I live in California and still have both receipts from my wire transfers through Western Union. Anyone filing a report or sending information to the police please contact me as I am willing to help. It would be awesome if I could get my money back if not I'd be happy to see this guy get caught for what he did to me and so many others.

In early June, a man named Donald Odell had posted an add on Craigslist for two three-day passes to the music festival called Lollapalooza in Chicago August 1-3, 2014. Lollapalooza does not send out tickets until two weeks before the actual concert dates. I responded to the post on Craigslist and Donald asked for my phone number. I sent him my number, he then called me and gave me the details about price and what not. He then claimed that he didnt know I lived clear in Iowa and started to brainstorm options on how I could pay him. He said Wal-mart money transfers were the best option because there is no wait time for the money. I agreed to send half of the money for the two Lollapalooza tickets, which was $260.00, and Id send the other half after I received the tickets in the mail. I then sent the first half of the money through Wal-mart on 6-6-14, he texted me right after to let me know he got it and reassured me that he was not scamming me and the tickets would be delivered in no time. As weeks passed and it started to get closer to the arrival date of the tickets, Donald sent me a couple texts keeping me updated on when I could be expecting them. He seemed like an honest individual. When the ticket arrival time came, Donald began to become hesitant to sending me the tickets, claiming that his wife was worried I was not going to send the money. So he came up with a solution saying we could exchange numbers at the same time, meaning he would give me the tracking number to the package being sent to me and I would give him the number for him to be able to pick up the money at Wal-mart. He then gave me a tracking number, which turned out to be a fake, non existent number. I gave him the REAL money receiving number for him to pick up the remaining balance for the tickets, which was $255.00, at Wal-mart on 7-17-14. Afterwards he told me the tickets would be arriving at my house in 2-3 business days. I have tried contacting Donald but, to my knowledge, his phone has been shut off for a couple days now. Donald sent me a photo of two 2014 Lollapalooza wristbands claiming they were being sent to me on the last day we spoke. I also have a photo of his I.D. and every text he has sent to me.

Today we found out that Donald Odell is a convict from 2001. The cops are already starting the case because they believe that he is not going to give me the tickets by Thursday. Most likely he will go to jail. But you can only get your money back if you paid over 350 dollars Because then it is considered a crime. That man got 510 out of me, a 17 year old gitl. I would like to get the people from out of state to talk to the cops with me because it is a crime to scam someone from out of state. Please email me, (((email redacted)))

Donald Odell scammed my 17 year old daughter out of $510. I contacted the CPD and they said give it until Thursday to see if the tickets will show up. They said a crime has not been commited yet because the concert is this weekend. I am filing a report today I refuse to wait. I called this guy yesterday and after I left him a message he turned his phone off. I called and left 3 voicemail messages.

In my text to him I told him that we are a CPD family and I want the tickets. We really are a CPD family I was not lieing. He messaged back the tickets were mailed and he can't control the mail. I again messaged him and his response was I MAILED THEM! I do not beleive this to be true. I have had him looked up and have a ton of infomation on him if you would like any of it please contact me.

hello everyone. i too was scammes buti called law enforcement. they told me he has until thursday to give me the tickets or there will be a warrant out for his arrest. he knows this, so he is very scared. please contact me through email [email protected] asap. i want you all to be heard when i file the report. thank you.

I'm living in MA and have fallen victim to this scumbag as well. He contacted me from the 402-7464 number.  I was able to find an alternate address to the one on the license picture I was sent, but I'm not sure if it's another fake or if it's his actual address. I'm planning on calling Chicago PD with all of this information. Everyone, please feel free to message me with more information or with your story so that we can take this guy down.

i also just realized what had happened to me.. i was looking to get 2 3day passes for 550. i sent half up front now he is calling me saying he will be out of town and wants me to send the rest now. i know obviously not to do that. i want to know how id get the money ive already sent back! please let me know 

He ripped me off too. I have contacted the police, but I would like to get involved in the in the case with other victims. Anyone who has been ripped off please feel free to message me. 

He scammed me too. Just today he stopped responding to my text messages. I paid for 2 tickets in May and never got them in the mail. How can I get involved?
