This still looks like a scam and you might want to be very careful with this. Here is how this scam usually plays out: 1) The company or person sends you a check (I'll use $1000 for this example) and tells you that you need to cash it and send 90% of the funds back to them through western union or some other money wire service. They will usually want you to send the money gram within a few hours of you cashing the check. They tell you that you can keep the remaining 10% as your pay. 2) You go off wanting to be the good "employee" and get the check cashed and wire them $900, keeping the 10% or $100 for yourself. Everyone seems happy at this point. 3) A week or so later you will find out that the check you cashed was bad. It will either come back as a fake check or written on a closed account or something like that. Now your bank will come after you for the $1000. Unfortunately, you only have $100 left, the other $900 was sent back. Of course, any attempt to contact the company that originally sent you the check will be met with silence. What do they care, they have $900 of your money for free. Now you are left $900 in the hole with no way left to recover. I would suggest that you do not wire them any money and do not try to cash the check. E-mail them and state that you beleive this is a fraud and that you will not take any part in it. Tell them that you will turn over the check and any information you have received to the proper athorities for further investigation into this fraud. This should get them off of your back. However, if for some reason you still beleive that this is legitimate and will go through with this anyway (really bad idea!!!) I suggest that you hold off on sending the money back to them for 1 or 2 weeks to make sure the check clears. However, I can assure that it won't.

This is a long running scam. Why can they not cash their own checks? Think about it! If you deposit the check and use funds from it and it then comes back as fraudulent (which it will) YOU will be liable for the entire amount of that check. Just look around here here on Rip-Off Report and you will see MANY complaints about this scam!!
