I received three different scam letters in one week from different scam artists seeking "processing fees" to award me my "prize payment." This one claimes I've won $1,400,000.00. Fortunately, I had heard about this scam before and didn't respond. I went to Ripoffreport.com when I received the first one and, sure enough, there they were. However, it's really hurtful to receive these since I've been unemployed for over a year.
This particular company, D.R.D. Awards Payment Data Release, has an envelope with a fuzzy "Award Payments" logo in blue, a typo in the blue type below it (let these clowns locate the typo), and black, probably inkjet, type at the top reading "P.O. Box 9035, Jericho, NY 11753." The enclosed return envelope lists the address as "Issuance Office, Proceedings Director, P.O. Box 9000, East Meadow, NY 11554-9000" (where the scam artists will pick up the envelopes containing $19.99 each before skipping town and setting up somewhere else). The "Consumer Service" address on the back of the cover letter is "P.O. Box 433, Plainview, NY 11803-0433."
You can do something about this. Go to the official United States Post Office Web site and report any of these scam artists promptly. They can be picked up and charged with mail fraud. Unfortunately, the Post Office is required by law to deliver all mail. Only we, the mail recipients, can get them caught and jailed. By the way, one official told me that a street address turned out to be a parking garage and the attendant was in on it. The Post Office loves it when they use P.O. Box return addresses. They're easier to shut down.

Here's a copy of what the scam cover letter looks like. (I've blanked out my personal information.) Don't fall for this or others like it. This looks like a mass mailing and you don't want to send your money to these scam artists. Also, don't forget to post complaints to the USPS Mail Fraud Web page on any scam award letters asking you to send money of any sort to collect your prize. The Post Office can do something to shut them down (but can't get your money back). Thank you to Ripoffreport.com for letting me check on any scams before I send money. No one can afford these ripoffs.
