Like the other reports that I have read, what was told to me at the Dealership prior to getting the car and what Drivetime will actually do are two greatly different things. As a VMI Alumni, Honor is highly precious to me. Thus I am forced to continue making payments until the car is paid for, and then however I will never do business with this company again. I am a disabled Veteran of the US Army, as well. I wanted to use the Buy Back/Trade In pprogram, but was told I could not until my loan was below $4000.00. That upset me, but I was going to live with it. Now someone I highly respect, and honor asked if I was willing to let him assume the loan. He wanted the car for a young man, who in that culture was about to be deemed an adult. I thought that it was a very good idea. I contacted DriveTime to try to set it up. Itwas a simple to do rewrite of a loan. They informed me that they will not do it. I coulod add him to the loan, but I would still be totatally responsible to ensure payments were made. THis is an extreme insult to the man by his culture. They were saying that he was not honorable enough to make the payments, but required an Elder be on the account with him. This man has impecable credit and can quite literally walk into any dealership he chooses and get any car that he chooses. He was instead trying to help me out as I am on a fixed income. It was, also, his way of paying proper respects to my wife and myself as Elders. Drivetime instead refused to talk to him with or without us present directly.  If you prize honor as I do, Do not do business with DRiveTime, but rather check out other companies.  Though DriveTime tries to say that they have Honor, I do not see it in their dealings. All I see is a Dishonorable Company that tries to get as much money out of you as possible.

"  thought that it was a very good idea. I contacted DriveTime to try to set it up. Itwas a simple to do rewrite of a loan. They informed me that they will not do it. "

Just because you thought it was a good idea and you say that it is simple, does not make it so.   In what universe do live that car loans are assumable?  What you propose is neither simple, nor is it common practice in the lending industry.

THis is an extreme insult to the man by his culture. "

All he has to do is get his own loan and buy the car from you.   That is how we do it in this culture (you should know this).   Being extremely insulted by standard lending practices does not bode well for your friend's future in this country.

" They were saying that he was not honorable enough to make the payments, but required an Elder be on the account with him.  "

Try not to be so dramatic.   They were saying that they would not allow him to assume your loan, because your loan is not assumable.  The only way to allow him as a party to your existing loan would be to add him as a cosigner.

" This man has impecable credit and can quite literally walk into any dealership he chooses and get any car that he chooses. "

So why doesn't he just get his own loan and buy your car?    It's a simple concept which most people can comprehend.    Additionally, if he has impeccable credit you would be doing him a huge disservice by saddling him with the absurdly high interest rate you got from Drivetime (don't ask me how I know).   You're complaint makes no financial sense at all.  If what you say is true, you appear to be trying to shaft your honorable friend.

" Drivetime instead refused to talk to him with or without us present directly. "

We get it.  Drivetime is not going to allow him to take over your loan.  As such, they cannot discuss your finances with him.    Does this surprise you?

What's with all of the whining about honor and insult in response to what seems to be a simple issue with a simple and common solution?    This report strikes me as disingenuous.

DriveTime says it wants to work this situation out and asks me to call them. Saddly the situation has already been resolved. The man in question refuses to deal with them. I am going to no longer pursue the situation at the request of my family.
