Daisy, a miniature beagle puppy was purchased from Evelyn Smith of Nebraska in January 2008. Since the day Daisy arrived in my home on July 18/08 she was very ill and eventually had to be surrendered. Daisy was sold to me by an irresposible breeder who released an unhealthy pet with liver problems, hydrocephalus and an intestinal infection of Campylobacter Spp.

Evelyn Smith has refused to take any responsibility for providing me with a sick puppy. In the two weeks I had Daisy, I had 4 vet visits, including one to a 24 hour emergency clinic that totaled more than $600. In those two weeks, veterinarians who saw her prescribed and/or provided Interceptor (a de-wormer), Erythromycin, Metronidazole.

When Evelyn was informed of Daisy's problems she initially apolgized and volunteered to pay my vet bills. That was very quickly withdrawn as she realized that by taking that action she would accept guilt/responsibility, she subsequently threatened to go to her lawyer. Since that day, Evelyn Smith has not communicated with me.

And 'dog person' knows that responsible/reputable breeders will guarantee the health and robust nature of thier dogs. Most responsible breeders will either refund what you have paid for the dog or will offer another puppy to you. Mrs. Smith, who despite her bold claims of being 'Christian,' refuses to accept any responsibility for her 'product.' Indeed, she became very defensive and started blaming everyone else, including me, for Daisy's health problems. She has even blamed the airline that transported the young pup to me.

Since then, I have taken it upon myself to write a blog http://daisytheminaturebeagle.blogspot.com/.

Over the next few days and weeks, I will be reporting Evelyn Smith to the Nebraska Humane Society http://www.nehumanesociety.org, the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (as a complaint against the vet who approved this puppy for travel) http://www.dhhs.ne.gov, and to her local newspapers and Better Business Bureau.

No one should have to go through what I did with a sick, vomiting, mucous, feces and blood covered puppy. She was so young and so very sick. My local veterinarian had concerns for her longterm digestive and neurological health. Can you imagine a family having to explain to their children that their puppy might die and will need long term care and will never be the same again???

I bought a mini female beagle from Evelyn in 2008.. I had allowed the posting of the slideshow she put up and I just happened to run into this report again and it still angers me.

Bella came to me in perfect health condition and Evelyn was more than accomodating when it came to setting up a drop off and with any questions I had. My boyfriend at the time also had purchased a male mini beagle who was in fact, Daisy's brother. Both of our babies are now 4 years old and still in perfect health..we couldn't ask for better dogs. They are a joy and we love them like a child. I know things happen and not everything can be perfect but maybe you're rebuttal against Evelyn is just a little too harsh. Don't judge the breeder until you're a consumer or have visited her kennel (And yes, I did make a visit in 2010 with both of our beagles to see the entire kennel and it was beautiful..she had everything so well organized and clean. all of the animals were friendly and you could tell they were well cared for and loved.)

I do not and will not ever regret investing my money into a beagle from Evelyn. I would recommend her to anyone who wanted a healthy, beautiful, well-mannered beagle. I don't know if Daisy's story is 100% true or not, but I do know my beagles are 100% healthy and that they did not come from a puppy mill.

I thank the other beagle owner's for posting on this in the past few years as we know what Evelyn's kennel is really like. And I hope everyone else sleeps well at night knowing the reputation of a wonderful kennel is being put to shame for no reason.

I purchased a male mini beagle from Evelyn 3 1/2 years ago. He was and still is in perfect health. He turned out not to be so mini more the size of a standard beagle, but I love that dog as if he were my child. He turned 3 in October and runs 6 miles a day with my husband. He is the sweetest most loving and patient dog I've ever seen. We have 4 children one younger than our beagle, Snickers, and Snickers loves that baby sooooo much. They are best buds. I am actually looking into purchasing another female beagle from Evelyn. I drove from Colorado to Nebraska to pick Snickers up and Evelyn was nothing but accommodating, considering I picked him up at 12:00am. Her home was nice and I didn't get any bad feelings at all. We dont know and probably never will know all the circumstances behind this sick puppy, but I'm sure that Evelyn didn't and wouldn't intend to sell a sick puppy. Sometimes in life this stuff happens and it is sad and tragic. I hope it all works out for all involved.

On Jan. 4 2011 we picked up from the airport a wonderful nine week old beagle puppy. she has been a pleasure to have in our home. She was in good health took her to a vet just to make sure and all was good. she is friendly and cuddly and quite smart.

Before purchasing Athena we did our research and found miniature beagles had the potential for being plagued with health problems. As the consumer you need to do this.

The experience of our purchase of Athena was very good maybe from this past one ( Daisy), nonetheless we would buy another Beagle from Evelyn Smith. We would also recommend Evelyn Smith if someone wanted a Beagle like Athena.

I do not know you, Evelyn, but I notice that your rebuttal is just a bit too long, a bit toodefensive and you do go on andon and on. Hmmmmm, I smell a rat. Maybe you do run a puppy mill with defective pups. Sounds like it. If you are a dog breeder who has sold 350 puppies what else could you be? I have found over the past few years that dog breedersare, in their own right, a breed apart from honest society. They do not possess compassion for animals, nor are they morally upstanding people that anyone would ever invite into their homes. Their god is money. The universe has a way of making things right, Evelyn.I will not look at your rebuttal to this because I, also, have more important things to do with my time. I do know that the more you protest the guiltier you must feel. Hope you sleep well at night.

I own a beagle from Evelyn and my experience was  perfect.  My beagle came from Shaney & Handsome.  My dogs name is Tater.  She is an awesome dog.  I live in South Texas and the shipping  went well.  I have had Tater for 3 years now and she is a healthy, happy , NON BARKING, small beagle.  I love her.  I would love to breed her when the opportunity arrives.  Tater has the best personality and would love to continue  her good nature someday.  Meanwhile, we will continue to enjoy her and thanks to Evelyn I have the dog I have always wanted.

i own the brother to daisy. his name is windsor and he is perfectly healthy. the only problem i have had with im is that he has a food allergy to chicken witch in no way shape or form is a problem of the breeder. and i have red your blog on this whole deal i dont really agree with anything because evelyn has the prof from her bank that she sent the money back but only out of kindness not because she take any blame bc if a puppy only 2 mo old flys from nebraska to texas then has a huge layover and flys all the way to canada ,whitch the breeder said she didnt like the idea of this anyway, it will pry be very susceptable to anything. how would the breeder know of any of these problems you have with this dog without testing or seeing any visual problems. the breeder droped my dog and my grilfreinds female (who is also perfectly healthy) off on her way to take some puppys to the air port. and you complain of bloody stool the long trip could have caused this because anytime a puppy is stressed that much they can have bloody stool it just happens then if you change there food completly on top of it they can also have digestive problems. i am goin to have my personal vet (who has no affiliation with the breeder we live over 2 hours apart) reveiw this hole thing and give me his opinon. also when you degrade the breeder by calling them a puppy mill i will also contest to this after i make my vistit there very shortly and i will be making an entire video blog of our trip to the breeder. basicaly i am just sayin that i have no problem with this breeder and have a puppy from the same litter as your dog and have no problems with it and i will provide prof that they are not a puppy mill. p.s. i Know that i cant spell and dont have proper grammer. and the link that the breeder will be provideing to a video is one that my girlfreind made of my windsor and her bella in appreciation to this wonderfull breeder.

I am Evelyn Smith, of PuppyLoves in Beaver City, Nebraska. My heart was warmed today as I viewed a loving presentation that was sent to me by K. P. & J. M. who adopted Windsor, who is Daisy's brother, and another little girl beagle, Bella, from Leanna's & Lil' Chief's litter. Daisy & Windsor's parents are SallyMae and Handsome. Keep in mind that Windsor came from the very same litter as Daisy, and their health was quite equal, though Daisy was a little smaller, being the runt of the litter. I believe that since she was a little smaller than her brother(probably by 6 to 8 oz when they left me) she was more susceptible to illness. No doubt this is why she became ill soon after her long journey from Omaha to Houston, a long kenneling time in Houston(8-10 hrs. as I remember), before then connecting with the next flight up to Calgary, Alberta. Pat and I had both had concerns as to the length of the transition time, but Pat decided that if the airlines said it would be okay, we would trust their judgment. So that's how we did. But, obviously, it was too big of a trip for Daisy as she was sick for sometime before she recovered. K. P. has given me the permission to share this sweet slideshow with you. I trust you will enjoy it as much as I have. Thank you, K. P., for such a sweet, unexpected Christmas gift! God bless you! Warmly, Evelyn Smith http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrUAsOKhhzg

Wed, November 12, 2008

I am Evelyn Smith, of Puppyloves, in Beaver City, Nebraska. When I have read such a report in the past, I took for granted that all of the facts had been researched and it was the absolute truth. I thought that the individuals accused were proven guilty and deserved whatever came to them. Unfortunately, through this experience I've found that it is not necessarily the case. I have no desire to contaminate my mind with trash and so I have only read about 15% of this report and the blog. I've read enough that I know of many areas of misleading and false information, enough to know how to respond here. This has not messed up my life at all. Other than leaving this offer to those who may have questions to explain what actually happened and show actual proof, I have no time for slinging mud. I'm far too busy doing that which amounts to something worthwhile. My doggies use up many hrs. a day, and I won't let them suffer by failing to care for them, just to chase a false report. That would not be right. At this point, (November 12, 2008) though I have known about this report/blog since around August 20th, it has not cost me a single adoption situation, that I know of. I've been asked by three individuals and all three have chosen to get a puppy after speaking with me and/or Dr. Becker. Every puppy we have ever had has been placed in good homes and I have never had to take them to shelters because I couldn't get them placed. Ironically, I have noticed that we have had much more traffic to our website in the last 3 months. I sincerely believe that the report submitted has caused more people to check us out and decide to adopt from us. We are grateful. We have waiting lists and individuals generally have to wait most of the time to even get a puppy. There is no reason to worry about it changing now for a couple of reasons. First reason is because we have many(over 350) who have adopted from us and many have offered to share of their puppy adoption experience with someone that may have questions. Secondly, and far more importantly, God always honors truth and so we are well covered there. I will not allow this to stress me as I can't help how truthful others will be. With God's help, I can choose to be truthful and have a good attitude and that is my choice. I don't worry about the part that is not my responsibility. I will not resort to slanderous or rude behavior against Pat. She knows that we have been friends. I have no desire to make her pay for not being truthful. I'm sure that she leads a lonely life and she has my heartfelt pity. It is my sincere desire, Pat, that this situation be resolved. I will offer though that for those of you that would like to see the proof of this report and blog as being false and erroneous to contact me. I have copies of communication made to Pat, copy of the full refund check sent to her months ago because I wanted to help her pay on her vet bill, though it wasn't that the puppy arrived sick, even an email from Pat and information on a phone call she made to me following Daisy's arrival, stating her satisfaction, and some other valid proof. As you can imagine, the airlines would be liable as well if they truly transported a puppy that was in the condition described by Pat. I'm convinced that if we would have shown up at the airport with such a puppy to ship, Continental would have seen to it that the law was contacted and we would have been led out of there in handcuffs and rightly so. I have asked RipOff Report if they would remove the false report if I sent them all of the above. They indicated that they wanted to see my papers but did not say that they would remove the false report if it was clear to be such. Hoping that they just missed answering that question, I contacted them again. There was no response and that was about 10 weeks ago. So rather than take the chance of the materials being taken and revamped and used to stir up the stink I am offering to show it to anyone that will contact me. We offer to show you around if you will come to visit our family. We'd love to show you our mommy and daddy dogs and their babies. We would also love to have you sit down in our living room and visit with us at length as we have with many of our customers, who are our friends. You can ask any question and we'll do our utmost to answer you to your satisfaction. We offer you testimonials and even contact information of those that have traveled here to see our puppy facility in person. We've had them come from in state of course, but also come from as far as Cincinnati, OH (960 miles from the east) and Centralia, WA(1,580 miles from the west) and Huntsville, AL. (1,024 miles from the southwest) We offer to give you our vet's contact information. He is a highly respected man in our area and will be happy to talk with you, answering any questions you may have. He has served our area for over 40 years now and was actually the first veterinarian in Nebraska to use his own personal airplane to visit the outlying ranches to administer health care to the cattle there. Dr. Arthur Becker is a wonderful, compassionate man. At the very least, we suggest that you visit our website at http://www.evelyns-beagle-puppies to view the many pictures and testimonials there. We have also read and heard horror stories about puppy mills and the abuse of dogs. We are not offended whatsoever that someone would want to check us out to make sure that they weren't getting a puppy from such an establishment. We would be first to assist in reporting such an operation to see justice served against such individuals. We would also do it for the sake of saving the animals, if we ever would find out that such things were taking place. It wouldn't matter if it was dogs, cats, cattle, or whatever animal or breed. I commend those that take action against such facilities. In light of the terrible atrocities that have been commit against these helpless animals, I understand that individuals must have verification in different ways that things are truly up and above board. So I welcome your contact and look forward to answering any questions, or better yet meeting you in person. Thank you. This is so sad!!

I am sorry to hear about your story. A friend of mine had a similar problem with a Dachshund breeder in Alabama. I hope that you are able to cope. Breeders like the one where you got your Beagle puppy from make me extremely furious and angry that they would just breed dogs to make a profit off them and never ever breed them to better the breed. I am a very firm believer in the saying "what comes around goes around" and I know that she (this breeder) will get just what she deserves when she least expects it. I am glad that you have posted your story on here. Your story proves that this breeder's only source of income is breeding Beagles. This also proves that she has no REAL job that she can make money off of. This is just extremely sad. I hope that all her Beagles get justice from the state of Nebraska.

I am sorry to hear this.. I too have been there but not with this breeder. Thank you for posting it though. Where is your puppy now? I hope healthy and happy?? breeders like that make me sick and piss me off! They breed these dogs down smaller and smaller and then sell them for 3 times what their counterparts go for. It is sad because they end up with so many health problems and they are not even standard but they make tons of money. And breeders like her make good breeders have to fight hard to reassure people they aren't like those bad breeders too.
