San Diego,#2UPDATE EX-employee responds
Sat, August 18, 2012
It doesnt surprise me that you had this kind of experience with Express Tire. As an ex employee of several years, I can provide you with several reasons why.
First of all, Express Tire's work environment is not conducive to building one's skills as a technician. Productivity is considerably more important to them than quality and expertise. They have a get-it-in-get-it-out-as-quickly-as-possible attitude towards their business. As a result, the skill level of their technicians is mediocre at best. I found myself, on several occasions, having to repair mistakes made by other technicians, which cut into my productivity and my paycheck. Technicians are paid there based on productivity, and their most skilled technicians often find themselves getting the short end of the stick because they're "too expensive". Express Tire will never admit to this, though.
Second of all, Express Tire's equipment is poorly maintained and substandard at best. The lack of maintenance, and state of disrepair of the equipment is a result of two factors: 1. Expenses for the repair of equipment comes from the Store Manager's bonus pay, therefore, the Store Manager is usually unwilling to put money into equipment maintenance unless it is completely unusable. 2. A lot of equipment maintenance and repair could be done by the technicians, but, due to their pay structure, unwillingness to spend the time, and lack of know how, the equipment is severely neglected. I have, on several occasions, repaired their equipment (often at my own expense), because I needed to use it to do my job. I was never reimbursed for the parts, nor was I paid for my time.
Third is the lack of leadership at the corporate level, all the way up to the Company President, John Marchioni. His idea of leadership is "Sell! Sell! Sell!", and "Keep a positive mental attitude." No tools for self improvement , very little training, and no incentive to acquire and improve skills. Also, Express Tire has a team of attorneys, not just for the purpose of representing their interests, but for the purpose of figuring out how to make money by screwing people without bending the laws to the point of breakage.
There's a whole lot more I could say about this company, but what would be the point?
