The primary purpose of the credit reporting companies is to obtain and control the information by which lenders and credit grantors set interest rates. It is a scheme designed to inflate the profits of their customers (lenders) and servicers like Fairbanks, Ocwen, Litton, etc., use the mechanics of it to perpetuate their own interests and that of their parent companies. They operate in an atmosphere of arrogance and infallibility and have the financial muscle to keep consumer-friendly legislation from impeding their will. As long as our legislators in Washington are at the beck and call of the financial services industry, people without the resources to mount long-term, hard fought and personally painful individual court actions will continue to be victims of companies who know how to take advantage of them.
