Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
After working for Family Dollar from November 2002 until mid-March of 2004 I was informed today that I had accrued no vacation pay although my 1 year anniversary would have been last November 2003. Based on the fact that a year is a year it is evident to me that these people are corrupt and lacking validity as 'honest' individuals who are willing to take from those who provide the most for them.

Conviently they do not process vacation hours until May of each year so if you start in June of 2002, dont have a year in by the following May you won't be processed until the following year. That means if a person works 23 months, quits or gets discharged he's out the benifits.

Everything that I have seen Family Dollar do is at the expense of the employees, and is so to keep lower prices available to the consumer or so they say. Really, I feel that the regional V.P. and D.M.'s like to increase their bonus's and because idiots like Russ Tanger haven't had the pleasure of running a store they are unrealistic in their expectations. He could'nt

come close to performing up to his expectations if he had to with his labor budgets as he makes them. He is the man without any real answers to the problems a store has.

I worked anywhere from 62 to 80 hours per week and worked hard, trying to get merchandise on the floor, not the required 52 hours a week, and still could not saatisfy all the job required.

I could have done like some and clock my people out at 8:30 p.m. and told them to complete a task requiring them to stay until 10:00 or 11:00 but its illegal. They also condone such practice evidently, since the person I refer to is still there and Russ Tanger approves because he gives partiality to that individual. He also is fond of forcing Managers to work 7 days a week if the store is below his standards. More abuse of the 52 hour work week.

Meeting his standards is impossible at ridicously low labor budgets. My store was netting 21,000 to 26,000 per week, my average load 1100 to 1300 cartons deliveries and a 1200 dollar budget which included my salary. The budget is figured at 160 hours, which included my 52 theoretical hours you have 108 hours to run a store that stays open 72 hours per week, uses a chunk of hours on monday and tuesday for freight which is mixed so badly that you get 2 chemical, 2 food, some promo more chemical, dog food, ect. ect. with your 485 lines becoming 1400 and having a 13 ft. wide warehouse with only 10 boats. Then a fool such as Tanger comes in ranting, and when given an explanation sagely says " that dosen't matter," you know he only hears his pocketbook cause everything has variables.

My intention is to join the lawsuit and I would reccomend to all ex-managers that they inform agencies such as "weights and Measures", ADA, the local Fire Departments, regarding violations each of these folks control. It could be made better for the poor folks yet to be abused, cheated, and lied to by Family Dollar.
