My dad sent me a $200 gift card for my birthday via Fedex overnight yesterday.  He wanted me to get it today (Saturday) because it's my last weekend before I deploy to Iraq, and he wanted me to be able to go out to Buffalo Wild Wings with my buddies for one last weekend out before we went overseas.

I sat at home all day waiting for the envelope to get here.  I did go shower for about 15 minutes, but I left the bathroom door open so that I could hear if someone knocked.  Around 2:00 pm, I called Fedex and they claimed that the envelope had been left at my door at 1:10.  I poked my head out and checked, and there was nothing.  Not a slip, not an envelope.  I told them there was nothing there, and they promised to talk to the courier about it and give me a call back.  I waited a few more hours, and nothing, so I called back.  They said that they actually weren't going to call the courier 'til Monday morning!  I asked what about my package, and they said "please allow 24-48 business hours for us to discuss this with the courier."  I told them I don't have time for that, I'm going to Iraq in the next week.  They said "sorry.  Your father will have to file a claim to see if he can get reimbursed for the shipping costs."  For the shipping costs??  He was shipping a $200 gift card!  I bet some thief (possibly the courier himself!) is eating well tonight!

Here is what it SHOULD look like:

"was the item being shipped unique or irreplaceable?"

"no"

"What was it?"

"A $200 Buffalo Wild Wings gift card."

"I think we can handle that.  We'll send someone out to replace that right away."

They need to make their business more conducive to replacing replaceable items right away when they're lost by the fault of the courier, not making people that are waiting at home for packages all day wait 24-48 business hours for them to make up their minds.  By the time they do so, I'll be in Iraq, and will have never gotten to go to Buffalo Wild Wings one last time, because I'm a soldier and I'm broke.

Thanks for supporting the US Military.
