Used car consumers beware! I recently bought a 2000 chevy malibu from these guys. Unfortunately, I was under a time crunch to get a vehicle, or I would have done more research before trusting the salesfolk here.
My husband first went in to look around and get a feel for things, and found Phil to be a down to earth honest guy. We then were shown a couple of cars, by, I believe, Scott. We were interested in the Malibu which we were told JUST came in. Tho it had not yet gone through their alleged thorough inspection, they felt strongly that when it did it would be found in near perfect condition. It had low mileage, and drove well. There were a couple of things that made us hesitate- a square size tear in the driver door, a gear shift that basically came off in your hand, and bald tires.
Those, they said, would OBVIOUSLY be fixed when the car was inspected by their mechanics, automatically.
When I told them we would take the car IF those things got fixed, they said, again, obviously they would.
When I went to sign the paper work, there was a slip I hesitated about which stated the thing they owed me, the comsumer, was good service. I again said, "AND the gear shift, tires, and tear fixed". "Of course" said Phil, we don't even need to put that on there, it's obvious! MY mistake there. I foolishly believed that I was dealing with a man of his word, as he seemed to be.
Within a couple of days, much shorter time than I expected, they told me the car was ready. "You allready fixed the tear, tires, and gear shift"? I asked. "Yup, it's all set"! They said.
I had been borrowing my mother in laws car, andshe was kind enough to take me to pick up my new car, and get hers returned to her!
It was late, and there was a guy waiting to close up. He gave me the key, I go in, and guess what? NO new gear shift, NO fixed tear, although they did stick on some cheap new front tires. I had to take the car as my m-i-l needed hers returned, but was determined to call them asap, and quite suprised that they had so blatantly lied about having the car ready! The next morning I walked out my door to find my tire flat! I called them right away. Suddenly, the accommodating Phil was acting like he never heard of me before, and was totally unaware of any problems that had been promised to fix. He gave me the owners number, who again played dumb, said he'd been away and had no idea of this sale, but implied that I had gotten a good deal and shouldn't be griping. He said he'd call his guys and see what the issue was. Of course, no one called me back. When I called Phil he said that Bob had called him, and when could I bring the car in. I said if I had to return the car to be fixed, then I expected a loaner car, as I only took the car because I was told it was fixed, and I wasn't going to be left withought a car due to their negligence. He said he coudn't authorize that, and Bob would call me. Never happened. We took the car to be inspected, and while the guy said the gear shift was dangerous, he couldn't fail us for it, but he did find a couple of minor things to fail us for, so we had a reason to bring the car back. (Glass in that flat tire for one.) When we came in, me fuming, and my husband trying to be polite and give them the benefit, they barely looked up from their lunches, thought we could have fixed those minor things ourselves, and would only give us tires if we bought them! They also said they would order me a new gear shift and call when it came in, guess what, it's been a couple of months, and NOTHING.
In a nutshell, they were nice and down to earth, always on the ball to return a call, and the second you seal the deal, they acted like they had never heard of me, wouldn't return calls, and were completely uncaring and rude thereafter.
Save yourself the headache, and go to someone reputable. If I can save one other person from getting scammed I will be happy.
PS, Last month the starter died almost to the minute the warranty expired, and I just had to sink another grand into this.
