We were involved with American Debt Counselors, (ADC) the predecessor of Financial Help Services (FHS). ADC, during their transfer to FHS in January, 2014 missed payments to creditors, even though they had received our recurring deduction from our bank account. This put us behind one monthly payment. Finally, we were able to learn that they were no longer in business with Financial Help Services taking over. It took several months (March 2014) to receive any kind of notification that a change had taken place and we had a new counselor. In June, 2014 I had to call the counselor to receive a printout of transactions that had taken place since January, 2014 and only after sending several faxes, did I receive a printout of payments. Since that time, monthly credit statements from the creditors have shown that the last payment to them was made on June 27, 2014 even though our monthly allocation was sent to FHS on the 1st of July and August. I have tried calling the counselor we were supposed to have, but he was never around or his phone was busy. Messages left were not returned. Just this date (August 20) I called again and received a recorded message that they were closed for a number of days due to severe flooding of their offices and that our creditors would be notified that business would not be conducted for a period of time. My husband and I have now decided to cancel the automatic withdrawal of funds from our bank account, notify our creditors that a monthly recurring payment will be scheduled with the bank to make current payment amounts along with delinquent amounts. We are very upset with both these organizations and believe that we have had thousands of dollars ripped off by both. I hope no one else assumes these organizations are reputable and safe. We will consult our lawyer to see what else can be done to receive our losses.
