Like the previous commenter, as a former employee, I could write a book. Basically, like any other company, Firestone will have its bad apples from place to place, so I won't say there aren't slimy people who work for them. However, having read the report here, what I see is someone frustrated with the service but hardly "ripped off." So here's the biggest question for the original poster: 1. Have you made a claim on your warranty? All work - yes, ALL work - is warranted for a minimum 6 months/6,000 miles. This warranty is not subject to waiver by a store manager, or even a district manager. In fact, if you call their district office, you might find it quite easy to get your money back. When I worked for Firestone (over a roughly 6 year period, during which time I worked in sales, shop management, then store management), I witnessed the company almost literally buy customers new cars. For example, at one store I worked in, we replaced tie rods on a 1985 Toyota. After everything was finished - the alignment done, the tires on, etc. - the technician lifted the vehicle one last time to look at a leak the customer asked us to look at before he left. Well, the vehicle slipped on the right front lift "foot," and landed on the tie rod, breaking it. Immediately, we informed the customer and replaced the tie rod and re-did the alignment at no charge - heck, it hadn't even left the shop yet. Unfortunately, the customer decided to "burn" us at the store. He started by calling the district office, and although we had honored the warranty the customer pushed enough that ultimately the company HQ was involved, and paid the man $6,000 - more than his car was worth! In other words, he had enough cash to replace his car, even though there was nothing wrong with it (well, nothing caused by the original service, anyway). As for commenter #2, the alleged former employee, while I can't comment on your experience directly, I can say that whether the person you name is slimy or not, he could sue you for slander.

I worked for Firestone for years. I won't write a book here, but I could. We ripped people off SO BAD it made me sick. I worked for most of the milwaukee area company store locations over a period of five years. The pressure to SELL was immense. Daily quotas on everything, and meeting these quotas were continuously referred to as a "condition of employement". So if the store hadn't met it's quota of brake jobs for the day and you brought in your car, you got sold on a brake job whether you needed it or not. The day I left that company was literally the second best day of my forty years, after the day my son was born. I don't know if Pat G still works at the 95 N Moreland location, but he's one of the slimiest employees there. Find yourself a good independant shop, stay away from the big chains, and far away from Firestone.
