Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

on Monday 4/6/15 i was contacted by derek otte from first bank telling me my account was overdrawn over $200.00 from charges i made the day before (Monday) I told him that could not be possible cause i had not used my card since the weekend.he said oh you're right, it was over the weekend. He then continued to explain to me that their...(in his words) OLD FASHION SYSTEM what we spend on the weekends does not debit out of our balance until Monday. i expressed to him that i felt that was a scam to steal fees from customers because every other bank I have is up to date with technology and removes the spent money from our balances upon the funds being spent appropriately when they are ran. He then copped an attitude with me and said I should do my banking with them instead, which I obviously will be doing from here on out.

I then called in to speak with Amy who originally opened my account. She apologized for not properly explaining that part of her services upon opening my account and agreed to release ALL of the fees I accrued from their "old fashion" system. At that point Derek Otte got on the phone and yelled at me saying " Amy does not have the authority to release those fees. I feel I was taken advantage of by a bank fee scam. I also held these conversations from my employers phone which were all recorder lines. So when I have the employee whom opened my account telling me she apologizes for not properly explaining some THIS UNIQUE to a customer....then I have TWO SUPERVISORS tell me they dont care it was not explained to me there is a scam happening. The other manager I spoke with was Chelsea Brodal.

She was equally as rude and over bearing. I explained that i would like to remain a customer who will keep a ledger on the weekend as opposed to relying on their app and online banking that as Derek Otte stated was "old fashion". I just wanted my fees released due to What Amy stated was a lack of explanation. I feel I was treated rudely by both Chelsea Brodal who basically laughed at my request for a release of fees despite her employee acknowledging I was not properly made aware of this rarity. On a recorder line no less. I also feel I was treated rudely by drek otte. I am a new customer who has been with this bank less than 90 days. They are a rip off. Thry do not even post the amount you are negative in their mobile app. It just says zero. Their entire business plan is in place to charge their customers fees and they explain it away with...calling their system old fashion.

I agree but not with what you may think

I agree with the bank.  Where if you think other banks are better..go bank with them.  But before you do, perhaps you should know a few things.

First of all contrary to what you believe the other poster nor myself is an employee of this bank.  If you look around this site you will realize a few things.  Such as when a person doesn't like what is being said, even if it is the truth, they default to the "You must be an employee".  The only thing this does though is prove your ignorance in the situation.

Also, as for "lying", perhaps you should look again.  No where in coast's posting did they say they can see your account info.  Now, they may have guessed at some things about your account.  But that is not because they can see it, but because another thing the "overdrafters" have in common is that they all fall under pretty much the same pattern.

So now onto your "issue" which is you not taking responsibility for YOUR money.

You say their technology is outdated.  Okay, I want you to do this.  Go into your favorite bank, such as Ch**e and ask to speak to a banker.  Now, ask them the following question...

"When I make 5 purchases can you give me a 100% guarantee that those 5 purchases will show up right away"

You can expect that their answer won't be "Yes".  It will be something along the lines of "In most cases you should see the purchases show up as soon as you make them.  However, we can not guarantee it will happen 100% of the time because there could be issues with the merchant or our system that may delay the debit from showing up for a period of time".  There may also be delays in posting due to an adjustment of the bill.  Such as if you go to a resturant and spend $50, they will ring the $50 but if you add a tip of $10 that may not show up on your account until they finalize their receipts which could be several hours to several days later.

I then want you to search this site for any bank and see their complaints.  Not only will you notice several simularities in the "RipOff" to your "RipOff", but some of the responses may look very familar as well.  Because you see the bank name may change, but the basic concept of taking responsibility for your own account does not.

You see...it is those exceptions you need to watch out for.  As wouldn't it be a bummer if you had a $50 debit that didn't show up when you had $60 in your account and so you spent another $25 causing an Overdraft?

The answer there is the same as the answer here.  Had you maintained a Register you would have know EXACTLY how much you have spent and how much you had available.  This doesn't take a math major, you are talking adding and subtracting...grade school math.  If you are shakey at math, go to your local dollar store and pick up a calculator.

Oh and as to who keeps a register with a debit card....ANYONE who wants to manage their account and make sure they don't spend more than they have available.  Now, of course someone who has thousands in their account and never even comes close to overdrafting probably doesn't need to.  But for the rest of us who need to make sure we are staying within our limits, keeping a register is the only way to go.

One final thing.  This site has a policy of NEVER removing posts, so even if you beg and plead to have yours removed once(if) you come to your senses and realize that you made a mistake...your posts will still be here.

no....it was your fees that overdrew the account. but even if that wasnt the case, who the **** keeps a ledger for their debit card???? not having to keep a ledger and use checks IS THE POINT of the creation of debit cards!! take chase for example, i can go shop, buy 5 items....then check the chase app and see whats available. with this horrible bank you cannot see any monies out of your balance!!! Im a father, and a marketing manager....not a banker or mathematician. Forgive me if I am going to here on out choose to do my banking with a bank who employs technology from this century in order to make a more pleasant and easy banking experience. Also, you are posting your rebuttle as a "consumer".....but you are saying you can see my account info?? lol So not only do you contradict yourself, but you lie too......Chelsea or Derek, Im not taking this complaint down! If you do not want your name on the internet associated with ripping good people off I suggest you get a job for a bank who is not out to do just that, ....you know, ask you to wake up from however you sleep at night...and rip people off. Lets just hope when you look for that new job they dont google your name. Good day

Neither a scam nor a rip-off

Whether they posted the transactions on Monday or over the weekend does not change the fact that you overdrew the account. Your claim that their system is ‘old fashion’ is totally bogus because all banks use the same math. It’s the same math we all learned in school.

There is no scam. Your currently maintained check register reveals the fact that you spent more than the available funds.
