FMA Alliance, LTD. is attempting to collect a debt I owe to Chase Bank. I am fully aware I owe money to Chase Bank.

I got a call from FMA Alliance, LTD. on November 19, 2008 to settle my debt with Chase Bank. The phone number on my caller ID does not match any of their phone numbers listed on their website.

The representative for FMA Alliance, LTD. was the coldest person I have ever talked to in my life. He was rude, condescending, and raised his voice several times during the call. He also threatened to "prosecute me in five minutes" if I did not stop talking.

FMA Alliance, LTD. will not accept payment any other way but over the phone. I explained to him that anyone can get an 800 number and gain information about me. I told him I would not be paying over the phone but I was willing to pay.

They refused to send me written payment terms to my home address. I agreed to make 2 small payments over the next two months and 1 lump sum to settle the remainder of the debt in January 2009 but I need written payment terms becuase I was not giving him my banking information. He wanted to set up automatic withdrawals from my personal bank account, I refused.

When I refused to pay over the phone he threatened to garnish my husbands wages. I told him I was not refusing to pay my debt and that I would pay when written payment terms were mailed to me. He refused.

The representative for FMA Alliance, LTD. got irate and told me they would be moving forward and I would incur thousands of dollars in court costs.

I was also informed that if I did settle my debt they would not be reporting the payment to the 3 credit reporting bureaus. I was told I could not dispute this with Chase Bank anymore and that I was only to contact them regarding this matter.

I have filed a complaint with the BBB, I am also calling Chase Bank to set up payment terms. If they want their money they will send me written terms. I am sending a certified letter to FMA Alliance, LTD. letting them know they are not to contact me and that I would be settling my debt directly with Chase Bank.

NEVER GIVE ANY COLLECTION AGENCY ANY ACCOUNT NUMBERS!

They won't accept a mailed payment - because they want access to your account numbers. this could be a scam. They will take far more then they are entitled to. They are probably charging far more then the original debt. NEVER SPEAK TO THEM ON THE PHONE - ANY VERBAL AGREEMENT WILL CHANGE IN 5 MINUTES. EVERYTHING IN WRITING!! never acknowledge a debt with Collection Agencies - even if you know it may be valid. They are required to prove it and cannot just demand you give them money. DO THE RESEARCH - www.ftc.gov Fair Debt Collection Practices Act www.budhibbs.com for more information -
