I was a victim as well. I was fooled by the lovely photos and then I arrived and realized that the apartments are in a very bad part of town and the rooms are dirty with roaches and bugs running around.
Esther has a 14 day cancellation policy so if you make a reservation, she charges you in full immedaitely and refuses to refund the money if you wish to cancel. I made my reservation on my smart phone at 1:00pm and when I arrived at the apartments at 1:50 pm I cancelled and Esther refused to refund my money. She laughed at me and said she is protected by her 14 day cancellation policy. Apparently she is very experienced with this process and several people have attempted to get charge backs on their cards.

We do have a cancellation policy posted on our wesbite and ask people to read and agree to it before they book. We do enforce our policy.
Every hotel or apartment rental has one. This guest tried to bypass our policy because she did not like the neighborhood. It is unfortunate that she was from a rural part of the Midwest and had never been in a multicultural city like Miami so she immediately passed judgement without even giving the rooms a look at. This guest did not enter the rooms or the property. She was making false accusations about the property in order to make a better case for herself in getting a refund with her credit card company since she knew the cancellation policy required a 14 day cancellation period.
We welcome all guests to visit the property before booking as we are onsight 24 hours per day. Please also visit Tripadvisor.com where you can hear other guests experiences about the Fortuna House.
