Buyer beware!  I hired Globe to move me from New Mexico to Louisiana. Everything was fine till the day of the move. I had sent them a CC authorization for payment, and it seemed once they recieved their money they were done with me.

After a call confirming they would be picking me up the next day I finished packing, and prepared to be able to leave for LA that same day since she confirmed they would be arriving between 9AM, and 11 AM. I was called later that afternoon changing the day of pick up to the next day since they had problems making it that day. I said fine same time as the day before. She confirmed they would be there between 9AM-11AM. At 8Am I got a call from the mover saying he had over slept, and wouldn't be there till later afternoon. They finally showed up at 5:30 that afternoon, and were loading up to Midnight that night.

I was unable to leave as planned so ended up getting a hotel room for the night, and ended up paying an extra night to the apartments. I am now out $80.00 for a room, and $70 for an extra night in apartment. No I'm sorry or anything from them. They then charged me for every little extra thing they had to do.

I had moved from PA to NM the year before, and had downsized in that year. Getting rid of alot of things including a bed, and large coffee table. I found when I moved from PA I had a little over 5000 lbs. Knowing that it shouldn't be anymore then that I wasn't to concerned when the mover kept saying I think you have more weight then 5000 lbs.

I went ahead, and left for LA not really knowing when my things would arrive since no one seemed to see fit to tell me. I moved into a hotel where I am still living. I called Globe on Tuesday of this week asking what the weight ended up being, and if everything had been paid. I was informed they would get back to me that afternoon with the information. No call. Not even from the Rep.

I finally got a call today from the mover telling me he would be delivering tomorrow night sometime, and I owed an addition $815.00 for my move, and needed to pay before he would unload. I had already paid them over $3000. When i asked how much the weight had been he said he didn't know, and I would need to contact Globe, but I had better have the money when he showed up or I wasn't getting my things. How could he not know?

I called Globe finally getting hold of someone who I could barely understand telling me I owed another $815.00, and they would only take cash or money order. I asked why no one had called me back on Tuesday as promised. She didn't respond to my question.

These people are holding my property hostage till they get an additional $815.00 from me tomorrow. I know for a fact that the weight could not have been over 7000 lbs, and they are holding me up for more money. I haven't even seen my property, and  made sure that it was all there, and not damaged! Do not do business with these people. Oh and you can plan on adding another $1000 to any quote they may give you. Go with a small local company for your moves. Stay away from these large carriers they are all crooks as far as I'm concerned.

I am a over-the-road trucker with over 19 years of experience and I have heard of this scam happening all the time.  My suggestion is to pay the money that they claim you owe since I assume you want your stuff, right?  Then follow these directions.

Since I am unable to post a web link you need to follow these steps to fill a federal complaint with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Adminstration which also over sees moving companies (such as the one you used).

Google or yahoo...this:  Federal Motor Carrier Safety Adminstration

this is the federal agency that regulates the trucking industy, truckers, moving carriers (interstate)

click on the link to the FMCSA website

on the website, I know its confusing so I will walk you thru it, ok?

on the main site...(middle, right side) you see the words "Quick Links"...then in that list...fifth line you need to click the one that says:  "Report Safety Violations".

The next page is where you can report all types of motor carrier violations, including household good violations (which sounds as what is happening to you here).....

Third line...click on the "Submit a Household Goods Consumer Complaint"...next page click the first line "interstate operations" (means out of state move)

Then read the next page...you can now file a complaint online or call it in...at this point its up to you.  I have filed a few complaints with the FMCSA on unsafe motor carriers (now former employers) and I will tell you online is easy and once you submit the information, you will receive a call back from a telephone interview agent from the FMCSA office within a few days.  They are calling to review or ask for more info is all..to make sure your complaint is complete and routed to the right person.

Then normally within a month an investigation will take place.  Most likely you will be again contacted by an investigator asking for further details (including any documentation you have, including photos, names, etc) and that person will be your contact all the way thru the investigation.

THAT is it...I hope you were able to understand the steps here.  While I have never dealt with a moving complaint, if its anything like a motor carrier complaint, you will find the process to be easy and the federal government here is your friend and will work with and answer any and all questions you have (the investigator will do that I mean).

Good luck and hope you enjoy your new location too.
