Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I join the many of you that have already complained about the bad experiences you endured by Great Expectation.

I offer two items of hope for anyone who has experienced suffering from interactions of this company:

1. There was someone who won a suit against the company and got his money back based on forfeiture. He writes:

"A contract is a meeting of the minds, if one person gets $1000s of dollars and the other person gets nothing, then there was obviously no meeting of the minds. "

Here are the details:

/Dating-services/Great-Expectations-D/great-expectations-dating-serv-PF5BP.htm

2. For those in Texas, their is a current bill that is undergoing the process of becoming law. So, this problem has caught the attention of the law makers and they are working on a solution. The House passed it. It has been sent to the Senate and will hopefully be voted on in 2008. If passed, the law covers all contracts for dating services from Sept. 1 2007 to beyond.

The key point to this Act is this:

"A person may cancel a contract for dating service and

receive a full refund of the payments made under the contract by sending, not later than midnight of the third business day after the contract date, written notice of cancellation, accompanied by proof of payment made under the contract, by certified mail to the dating service provider's home office. "

See the bill at:

http://www.legis.state.tx.us/tlodocs/80R/billtext/html/HB02623I.htm

See progress of this bill becoming a law at:

http://www.legis.state.tx.us/BillLookup/History.aspx?LegSess=80R&Bill=HB2623

So if you are reading this, and it is not yet midnight of the third business day after you signed the contract---then stop reading this and type up a cancellation letter stating that you would like to cancel your membership to the dating service, why, and that you would like a full refund. There are free basic templates online that you can use to help you draft it. Here is a basic one:

Great Expectations

address

Date

Dear Sir/Madame:

On (date of the contract), I signed an agreement at your office to utilize your dating service; at a price of...as shown in the enclosed receipt.

Today, I want to cancel that agreement for the following reason:..... I would like to cancel the agreement and ask that the money be returned to me.

Yours truly,

Sign the letter

Send it certified and return receipt. Keep a copy of the letter and the post office receipts showing time and date that you sent it.

Then, don't deal with the company again. They may call...but don't talk to them. They will try to convince you to pay more money, give the service a try, or scare you in to backing down. Just blow them off and then join me in praying that Austin passes the bill that will entitle us to our money back!

How to file in small claims court in Texas

#2Consumer Suggestion

To file a claim against the DFW group of Great Expectations, you'll have to specify who is the "Registered Agent for Service" box. This individual is in Houston, and I suspect is the same registered agent for the GE office in Houston. Please contact me at [email protected] for the full info. It's too much to put here.

small claims court anyone?

Has anyone in Texas attempted to use small claims court to get their money back? On another post someone from California but ripped off by GE in Las Vegas said they got their money back that way. Currently in Dallas County your can file a small claim if the amount is less than $10,000 and the period has been less than 4 years (or was it 2?). I used the small claims court to recover unclaimed wages from an employer I contracted to in the late 80's. It went well for me, but back then there was a Department of Labor and standards who assigned an investigator to help.

The Bad News: Laws do not carry over from one session to the other. So since it was not voted on by the senate, I believe the bill died in the last Texas legislative session. The Good News: I have filed a consumer complaint with the Office of the Texas Attorney General and encourage others in Texas and around the nation to do the same!

We need to hit Great Expectations from all sides.

This is a good point. Victims of Great Expectations in Texas impacted prior to September 1 will not be covered. We need to hit Great Expectations from all sides. You can send an Email to Houston's Action 13's Jeff Ehling. (The replacement of Marvin Zindler.) (He's already currently getting some email's about this.) The link to send him an Email is: http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=stationinfo&id=3274550 Also, you can file a complaint with the attorney general. The attorney general from other states are suing, and I believe they are helping all those harmed by Great Expectations, regardless of when: http://www.oag.state.tx.us/consumer/complain.shtml

Sounds great, I wish I could pursue something. I was scammed in 2004. My credit card company would not remove the charges so I was stuck paying back a lot of lost money.
