Here is an update on the story I posted about Hain/Celestial Corporation. The Arizona Health Department just called me with a confirmed positive test on the jar of Maranatha Almond Butter I purchased from them. If you didn't see the story.......read below, and please help others who may not have heard about the recall by reposting.
I purchased a jar of Maranatha Almond butter in July of 2014. Shortly after getting the product I got very ill with diarrhea, fever, weight loss, exhaustion and nausea. I already have CFS and thyroid issues, so these type of infections tend to hit me a lot harder than most people. I had just started seeing a specialist for the thyroid issue when this happened, and ended up with far more out of pocket costs because the infection was so bad. At first my doctor was not sure what we were dealing with.
Then by mid August I finally recovered from the infection when I received a recall notice of the product on August 25, 2014. Unfortunately, I had already eaten more of the almond butter just before receiving the recall notice. Two days later I started running a raging fever, and this infection was far worse than the first one. I had to go to the E.R. four times, and was so weak I could not eat or get to the bathroom on my own without crawling. Between both infections, I was down for three months. This could have killed me with my other health issues.
I contacted the company and filed a claim for the damages, but they are denying my claim along with many other people who according to the FDA have called with complaints against the company. Hain Corp. who owns a number of "natural foods" is the maker of many brands that are carried in many health food stores. After speaking with the FDA I did verify the investigation on this company is not closed. The CDC had linked a number of cases to the products that were recalled. Here is a report from the FDA's website showing how poorly they fared on the FDA inspection of their plant in Oregon. You can see a copy of the violations at: http://www.fda.gov/…/recallsoutbre…/outbreaks/ucm410881.htm…
I feel not enough companies are being held accountable for their errors, and even though this may seem like a small incident to many people, it was financially, and physically catastrophic to me, and likely others who did not know what they had before the recall.
I am asking that you join me in boycotting all Hain Corp. products listed at the link below, until they compensate all claims that were filed in this case appropriately.
