This is my updated google review pending post:

Update:  (7-11-20):  16 months later and my complaint with this company remains unresolved...Tracey, why will you not participate in mediation offered for free from the Indiana State Attorney General?  If you feel uncomfortable with this, why not try something else?  For example, what about looking into arbitration from Fair Claims or the Evansville BBB?

My Relationship to Business Prior to Conflict:  I had been a loyal customer for 10+ years, always on time for appointments and always paid in full at time of service.

Summary of Issue:  In March 2019, an audit discovered my taxes had been incorrectly prepared by Henderson Tax Service for several years.  While I owe the missed taxes, I told Tracey Henderson that ethically, she needs to reimburse me for the fines and interests (~$1200).  Tracey explained to me why she believes she does not need to reimburse me.  Her response didn't add up to me.  I emailed that it was unethical of her to leave me to pay for her errors.  Tracey stopped emailing/communicating with me.

So, I wrote the Indiana Attorney General that I believed Tracey failed in her professional responsibilities to me as a tax preparer.  In my filed complaint, I included written copies of Tracy's explanations written by Tracey.  A Deputy Attorney General reviewed my complaint and "determined it may be resolved through mediation".  A case agent was assigned and I wanted to participate.  Tracey Henderson refused.  The file number for my complaint is 19-CP-54334 and I have allowed it to be available to the public to read.

***Tracey's comments will be reposted on google when my edited review is posted, but I am writing my google review, including below paragraph, as is.***

I encourage readers to look at Tracy's response to my complaint.  My complaint to this business is an opportunity to fix a problem (participate in mediation/arbitration), potentially learn how to improve professionally and show anyone reading this site that you care.  In my opinion, Tracey has failed on all accounts.

I never anticipated this behavior from Tracey Henderson.  As I worked with Tracey to try and resolve this I've learned a lot.

For example...

At the onset of discovering the mistakes, Tracey told me she had prepared an appeal letter for me on her computer.  But she was stuck on how to send it to me.  She said she didn't know how to attach a Word document to an email.  I alternatively felt bad for her as, in my opinion, her voice sounded a little nervous when she said this and I felt floored that I had been taking my taxes to someone who's skill set wasn't what I had assumed it was.  So, I responded to her like it was no big deal...I thought copying/pasting would be easier to explain than how to do an attachment over the phone.  So, I explained to her to just copy what's on the Word document and paste in the email addressed to me.  When I receive the email, I'll copy what she sent me and paste it back into a Word document to print out to take to City Hall.  (When I took the appeal to City Hall it was rejected on the spot.)

And I wonder if Tracey's web page was changed after the tax prep errors were discovered...after getting off the phone with Tracey when she said she didn't know how to attach a Word document to an email, I googled Henderson's Tax Service.  I wanted to read about her credentials.  The website I pulled up for Henderson's Tax Service made a statement about being able to prepare taxes for anyone.  And I remember thinking that wasn't my experience.  For full disclosure, I did not take a screenshot of this web page.  I don't think I pulled up a differernt Henderson's Tax Service, but I will update my concern on this point if Tracey's lets me know if I pulled up a different Henderson's Tax Service business.  Several weeks later after notifying Tracey of the errors I again pulled up a web page for Henderson's Tax Service and found what I think was changed wording.  The web page advertises for Individual Federal & State Income Tax Preparation...

Regardless, Tracey had been asked if she could prepare taxes from someone from my city 10+ years ago.  She had said she could and we had no agreement that she was only preparing a portion of my taxes.

Additional comments for Ripoff Report:

I would like to make note that the IN Attorney General's office collected information about my complaint.  After reviewing, the office offered it's resources to help resolve.  The mediation process is voluntary and while I wanted to participate, Tracey refused.  At this point, I believe arbitration is the best way to resolve my complaint.  I believe when a customer requests a business to participate in an alternative dispute resolution, the right thing for the business to do is participate.
