Yay, it works, it works! They finally brought my replacement Wednesday. But it was not without more conflict. They called at 7 a.m. Wednesday morning. Said they would bring out the new unit and asked if the old one was out of the window. I told him it was not because Bianca said they would install it and make sure it worked. He said they were just the delivery guys and didn't install them. Well, about an hour later the appliance installation guys called and said they would be here between 1 and 3, FINALLY! They got here at 1:30, prompt, I'll give 'em that. This ac unit comes with a neat little feature, I've not seen any ac's like this. You have to take it apart almost to install it. The unit has a metal frame that permanently attaches to the window, which is lighter and easier to work with, plus you don't need that extra guy standing outside with a catcher's mit if the unit were to fall out of the window. Once you get everything attached you just slip in the actual ac unit, or tray as Amana calls it, and screw it into the frame and you're done! Well, this guy wanted to remove the entire frame and everything, had no idea what to do. When I told him all this he just looked at me like I was nuts. Then my 15 year old son steps in and shows him how to dismantle it without having to go through the whole process of taking everything out. It took about 10 to 15 minutes for them to get everything done, including getting the old one out and putting the new one in. I think my son should get paid half of their salary for that job. Anyway, once installed, the guy just plugged it in and made sure the lights came on and said to wait 15 minutes before turning it on because of the jarring and then he left! The first unit had a bad fan motor, he had no way of knowing if this one may or may not have worked since he just checked the lights. Thankfully, this one works, for the time being. I've learned, I'll go to Sears and pay a little extra from now on for all my appliance needs and stay away from HH Gregg as it is too much of a headache!

After a call to the corporate office in Indianapolis we were told that the warranty would be reinstated. Unfortunately my mother talked to them while I tried my luck ordering the parts myself with Amana and didn't ask to get this in writing. I did tell her to call them back tomorrow and ask for this warranty extension in writing, too many bad experiences and been burnt too many times, I'm not taking anymore chances. However, I did find out the information about the parts. One company Amana uses told me that the parts could be ordered but would take 2 to 3 MONTHS to get here. I asked him if they were shipped in on a boat, his reply, 'yes, from China!' I guess that just goes to show that buying American made has many advantages, I always thought that Amana WAS American made, they also service Maytag and Haier, just found that out today also. By the way, the other company Amana uses said they could order the parts and have them in 10 to 14 days, but they couldn't tell me about the parts that I needed for my unit specifically. I'm just satisfied with the fact that the unit is going to be replaced, the heat index outside is well over 100 degrees. I hope that this one works better than the last 2! I feel sorry for the Colts, they're in town for their summer practice, this is the hottest summer in 17 years around here, not a good time to be without air conditioning, can't wait til Wednesday when my new unit gets here! Guess it's a good thing I've got one in the front half of the house!
