Or did you try to do it on the cheap and hire an illegal fly-by-nighter in order to beat the system? How did he obtain building permits for this work, especially for the electrical work and demolition? Tearing out walls is dangerous if not done properly as it could allow the roof to sag. You could take your chances in small claims and hope to win, but I doubt you'll ever see any money. I speak from experience, I just paid out over 25 grand to repair or correct damage to a house that has had many unlicensed, un-inspected modifications to it over the years. Also, since you are wheel-chair bound can you get help for these modifications you need? I know of some carpenters that do projects for free, maybe through your church or something. For instance, I know of one man that recently had some very nice wheel-chair ramps professionally built and installed and didn't pay a dime. Another had a room specially wired for his needs. There are many good people out there, you just need to hook up with them.
