The room was nice, the free breakfast was horrible (waffle batter spoiled, milk for cereal was warm, muffins were not fresh, juices were watered down all carbohydrates no fruit} One of the employees stole clothing from us and my grandson developed a serious eye infection from the dirty water in the heated spa. We bought eye-wash solution to clean the infection from the eye and took him to a medical center for evaluation. After the trip to medical facility we went to a restaurant a few miles from the motel so eat breakfast both issues were added and unexpected costs to our trip. As for the clothes we left the motel early in the morning to visit the Grand Canyon once at the Grand Canyon my noticed that we had left some clothing hanging in the room, we returned to the motel prior to the next check-in time and I went in to notify the manager that we mistakenly left some clothing hanging in the room and needed to pick it up.
He told me that no clothing had been left in the room before checking with the cleaning staff. After insisting that he check with his staff he called the girl and asked if she found any clothing that had been left in the room, he had a very hard time communicating with her and asked that she return to work so that we could talk with us. Once she arrived the manager explained that we had left some clothing in the room and were there to pick it up, she immediately got nervous and her eyes started to water. She did not speak much English and was hard to understand but her actions spoke volumes when asked about our clothes as she denied seeing any clothing in the room. The manager got very nasty with me and asked me to leave. I left to prevent any escalation of the conflict as her husband approached yelling at me in spanish. This experience put a real damper on what was to be an enjoyable time with our two youngest grandsons. Basically the manager has no control over this facility by cleanliness or staff. Howard Johnson's should remove this property from it's list of quality places to stay..
