In September 2013 I was offered HughesNet through a DirectTV agent. This was a new company according to the agent, that had high speed internet. I went through the guidelines with the agent and set up an appointment. The agent laid out the provisions of signing up which were that the internet provider would need to hold $40 for the appointment and once the installation was complete, the hold would be released. She also stated that my first month would be free.
I set up the appointment and a couple of independent contractors with HughesNet came out and set up the satellite and service. No where in this visit nor on the phone with the Direct TV agent was a discussion of a 2 year contract, and I do not have paperwork as such.
A few days later I realized that a total amount of $58 was deducted from my account. I called DirectTv regarding this and they could not help and refered me to HughesNet. The agents there stated that there was nothing they could do.
First strike! I should have known from there that there was an issue. After a couople of months I had to cancel HughesNet due to the type of work I was beginning to start. HughesNet's SLOW service could not accomodate the type of work I had to do. I had to switch to Comcast, which I have no problem with their service or internet, AND I pay 3 times less for a triple package and true high speed internet, than I did with HughesNet's high priced and crappy internet service.
I had to cancel in December 2013. I called on the 20th, and sat on the phone with an agent for two hours arguing about cancellation. It was then that I was made aware of this "ghost" contract. This company puts you in a binding contract without notice? I requested a copy of my contract be sent to me and I was told it could not be emailed, I requested it to be mailed and was told they could not mail it. So, I cannot get the contract online, I cannot get a copy in email and I cannot get anything mailed to me? But I have to pay a cancellation fee with no proof of a contract I know I did not sign?
This is the worst company on the face of the Earth. Lets top all of this off right now. After the two hours of arguing, the final agreement was to charge me $185 for cancelation that would be taken care of in January.
On March 15, 2014, HughesNet tapped into my bank account and took out $706.00! This I did not owe at all and was not discussed. I am literally in tears because of the things I have to go through right now to get my money back.
I advise anyone even thinking of this company to go the other way. I have been on the phone with this company and my bank hours at a time. What if I had nothing to cover this? How dare HughesNet rob me and my children!
Not only did they not honor the payment that was discussed in December, They charged me triple, and did this months later without any notice, no agent calling or letter. This is not right and I am so angry with this company and I am sure to complain on any webpage I can to be heard and to warn other consumers about them. Do Not give them your information to pay your bill, find another company to do business with or three to six months down the line you too will be robbed of your HARD earned money. I do not work to wake up to $706.00 missing from my bank account.
