Some guy in a silver van named "Gordon" approached me as I was getting out of my car in front of Barnes & Noble in Olympia, WA. He called out something to me and I didn't quite make it out so I went up and asked to repeat himself. He said he had some really nice speakers to sell to me and I became intrigued. He showed me brochures for them, and it said they were worth a wopping $2150. I haggled with the guy cuz I didn't have much cash and ended up buying one of these "professional quality" speakers for $150. After doing some research and thinking I realized who in the hell sells 2000 dollar speakers for 150? I got royally screwed. The guy gave me a number which was fake. If you ever get approached by one of these guys ask to see ID and write down their plates, and call the police or something. Anything by Innovative Sound Systems or Digital Pro Audio is bull. Yes a scam, but an impressive speaker

I just had to chime in and agree with the other rebuttal too. About eight years ago around Portsmouth, New Hampshire I definitely got "scammed" or sold speakers from a couple guys in a white van but the speakers have been terrific since the day I bought them.

I knew in an instant it was shady or a scam and it sounds like the other classic descriptions of speaker scams. But I thought I'd go along and see what the pitch was. They had a whole range of brands and models, and all the brochures and everything, and some looked more professional than others. I was drawn to the Innovative Sound Systems tower speakers (or Digital Pro Audio, or DPA sound gear), model SL-T 2.6, which they said retailed for over $2000 a set.

After some talking, they appeared dead set on selling the set for no less than $600/set. I told them whatever they were doing was clearly a scam or selling stolen, repackaged speakers, so I wouldn't do more than $200 a set. I knew speakers, gave them a really good lookover, polymer woofers felt good, springy, tweeter looked like others I had seen, so I felt it was worth taking the chance. They eventually took the $200 because I was just about to drive off to the next job.

But I was really worried hooking them up back home, assuming there was a very real chance they would either not play at all or sound like crap. But they sounded terrific. My girlfriend was letting me borrow some slightly smaller Klipsch towers and my roomate and I both agreed they sounded better. So I've had them since then and still happy with the sound quality.

So not all the speakers being sold that way are total crap. I'm sure many are. But I'll bet some were stolen equipment that's been repackaged with fake labels. I heard a few days later after buying them that there had been a big break-in at a big home theatre store. Wouldn't surprise me if some of these speakers came from there and had fake labels put on them.

In short, yeah, I willingly bought from the scam, but it ended up being the best $200 I have ever spent on audio equipment.

I have had a "innovative sound systems" package & had no problems what so ever. In fact i found it to be better than some other name brands ive tried. I now own a "innovative sound systems subwoofer model # mts-2004" & i absolutly love it. Ive had it for over a year now & it still sounds great, no problems at all. My friends hear it & say wow. Its in my top 3 favorites of over 50 subwoofers ive tried. my friends have had these systems with no problems as well. I have had a defective name brand product, exchanged it & had no further problems, maybe try that before you slander the product. personaly i have put my sub through hell & its held its grounds so maybe its something your doing wrong not the product. thanks!
