Let's face it, the IRS is not only the most ruthless government agency, but they are the most ruthless collection agency in the world. They claim that I owe $6,000 more in taxes than my the 1040 perpared by my tax preparer says I do. But when I call the number on their letter, I get put on hold and no one ever answers the phone. While you are holding, they constantly play messages urging you to go to their website to address your issue. But when I do, it won't let me set up an online account because I don't have any credit cards in my name, mortgages, or car loans. This is very oppressive to lower income classes (which I am not), because many people with low income do not have any of these. When I call their general "customer service number," I get put in an endless circle of voice mail prompts, with no option at all to speak with a live person.
I knew I was going to owe a lot of tax in 2017, but I dispute the amount that I owe to the IRS. But I can't get in touch with the IRS to dispute it. The IRS is an incompetent, bloated government bureaucracy that has accumlated far too much administratve power. The founding fathers did not have thise in mind nearly 250 years ago.
I work for a publicly traded Fortune 500 company. If my company conducted business in the manner that the IRS does, the Securities and Exchange Commision and Attorneys General for states all across the country would be breathing down the company's neck. The IRS gets away with it because they are the government. They have nearly unlimited power to make your life miserable and sieze everything that you have worked your whole life for. My tax accounting professor at Western Kentucky University in 1986, Dr. Charles Hayes, said way back then that the IRS wants the tax payers to be confused and frustrated, because then they will just give up and pay what the IRS says they owe. I was not that cynical in 1986, but I am now. Screw the IRS.

Fantasy land? I am not sure where you got that but it wasn't from my report. I know what I am up against in dealing with the IRS. Stop trolling on this site. You are probably an IRS bureaucrat.
