I began attending ITT technical institute in the Fall of 2004. I chose this school simply because it had a course I was interested in, Digital Entertainment and Game Design. I went to the school for one semester shy of 2 years straight. The school does not and has not offered anything proficient enough to be worthy of the title "Digital Entertainment and Game Design. Not only do they not have instructors with video game or digital entertainment experience, but I doubt that any of my instructors have ever even played a video game. As well, as the courses I was assigned were literally just a combination of other courses (multimedia and drafting classes) that they threw together in no organized form. I failed at least 4-5 semesters simply out of lack of interest in the classes during the middle of my attendence there, but I was passed in the classes anyway.
My grades were cooked just to pass me so I would have to pay for the semester, which is not so great considering at the time I had intended to drop out since I had come to realize they WERE NOT teaching anything relevant to video game design. I can also state that they're newest gimmick, the CSI-rip off, "school of criminal justice" is equally inapt. They do not have professionals teaching things they have experience in, and the Dean and Instructors change literally about every two semesters because people quit constantly knowing that it's crooked and it's a dead end job.
I had a class that literally had no assignments, and no work, we just sat in front of computers to be attending. The price of the school is outrageous, the books are outrageous as well. I very much would like to somehow be involved in a class action lawsuit to be expunged of my debt to this school, not to mention I would very much like to have the peace of mind to know they cannot do this do people any further. While at this school I met MANY students who agreed with me that the situation was exactly as I viewed it, most of them dropped out. A select few decided to stay and try to stick it out just to get their fake diploma. I however, do not want to go to a job with a piece of paper that says I'm trained to do something that I'm not, simply because the school truly didn't offer training in it. I attended school at the Memphis/Cordova Tennessee ITT technical institute. If it's not this bad everywhere, something AT LEAST needs to be done about the one I attended, because alot of people ARE using this as a ride to get jobs they will not be trained to do... and they will go into debt, just as I will very soon.
