I am also a former instructor at ITT tech school 086 in Getzville, NY. The syllabuses for the courses are written by coporate headquarters in which the instructors are told to teach the courses in the way corporate has written. The syllabuses are usually outdated as well. Many of the administrative staff are not at all open-minded and they do not represent the students nor do they even represent themselves. I had tried to inspire them into displaying different methods of instruction to where the students had actually learned meaningful information from the courses and the heirarchy within had said I must still follow by the written guildlines. Problem was, the students were never learning from what was written by coporate! The dean at this location is unconcerned about any of the students' well-being. Many of the students thought I should be the Dean!
The Associate Dean is all over the place whenever she is attempting to teach a class and she always recieves poor evaluations...This school currently only has two chairs in the Criminal Justice and Electronics programs in which there exists four programs so they are lacking chairs in those areas. They dont seem to have any intent on filling in the postions.
They drop students very frequently and then turn around and wonder why they lose so many students. On top of that, they had most recently cut the AM classes and only rely on PM classes...in addition, they had combined many courses in which narrows down the students' learning and furthermore limits the courses for the instructors to teach. The chairs and the Associate Dean are required by coporate to teach four classes in addition to their responsibilities which also makes courses very scarce to the instructors. This school location is very unorganized and very closed-minded and they feel they need no improvement.
They have this stalking system called iris notes in which they repeatedly harass students each and every time they are absent. Realty is, this institiution cannot afford to lose students! This school has no child-care center with no intent to establish one and I have encountered many students who had difficulty making arrangements for child care to attend class. They have strict policies of not bringing children to class. After three consecutive absences a student is dropped. They very much emphasize on starting class from the very begining to the very end and do not believe in flexibility whatsoever! Classes are usually 3-4 hours long. They also believe in standardization tests.
Now, with all this being said, I had tried to change things for improvement based on my instruction...I tried to be more understanding, flexible, and provide more meaning in my presentations. As a result, many students had learned in a great deal! I was more open-minded in which I had expanded from the syllabuses but yet stayed with the content of the courses! My objective with my procedures was to keep students interested in looking forward to coming to school rather than dreading it. I was actually there to help the students understand and learn from the courses and not out to get them. Apparently, the heirarchy within had disagreed with my procedures determining I was not following protocol established by coporate headquarters. I was then fired without given any specific reason. Interesting thing is, I was never given any warnings whatsoever! Now, Im looking to go back to school myself to pursue a pHD which is a higher education level than anyone at school 086...As I reflect back a little bit, this school in Getzville, NY is a joke and I encourage anyone to avoid it at all costs!...Speaking of costs, I was told once by the Dean over there that all they care about is the money!

I am not sure how you can make the claim ITT-Technical Institute is not a real School. ITT offers degrees from the Associate through the Masters Level. Not to mention they are Nationally Accredited through the ACCSCT.
I am a proud Alumni and current ITT student. I earned my Associate of Science Degree in Computer Drafting and Design (CDD) and will be receiving my Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management (CM) this fall. Many of my Instructors hold Masters Degree's as well as years of industry experience. The knowledge I gained at ITT was not only theory based but many hours of hands on experience as well.
As a CDD student I studied Mechanical, Architectural as well as Civil Drafting. I also had the opportunity to learn many different software used in the Drafting and Design, Engineering and Architectural Industry, such as AutoCAD, Revit Architecture, AutoCAD Inventor, Autodesk 3DS Max (which is a 3D modeling software). We were also taught Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere, and Acrobat). I also had the opportunity to join the student chapter of the American Design Drafting Association. Many of my fellow graduates have rewarding jobs utilizing there skills in the architectural, engineering and even the fire protection industry.
I utilized my Construction Management skills to gain a job with a large construction firm in there project management and estimating department. This allows me to take my skills from the class room directly into the industry. I understand you may feel the price is high but look at any private university many cost close to $27,000 dollars a year for that’s $108,000 for a four year degree.
So yes a community college may be cheaper but in my opinion after attending a community college and then attending ITT I feel the quality of the education I received is well worth the money. Also to state that nobody will hire a person from ITT unless it is a $10 an hour dead end job to me is just plain ignorance.

I'm not sure what you were expecting when you accepted that position. Were you aware that ITT Tech is a community college, and not a four year institution? It sounds as though you weren't prepared to educate a group of adults who likely haven't attended a class in years, and I find it hard to believe that you were unaware of this aspect of the student body population when you signed on. In order to maintain accreditation, a strict syllabus is necessary in order to meet all the standard requirements. Did you expect complete freedom your first year on the job? You as well mention that this was your only job at the time, yet complain that you we're forced to work a solitary extra day so that one of your students could take a test, and even went home early once after being yelled at by another employee, a completely inappropriate and irresponsible reaction which lacked any consideration for the students you had abandoned. It sounds as if your expectations were far too high, and that you didn't respect the backgrounds of the students you were educating. I hope in the future you are more prepared for the positions you accept.

My boyfriend was interested in one of their programs and we visited the school. I have attended college. When I finally got a price out of ITT for the degree it was a lot more than a traditional college. I told them they were a total RIP OFF and we left. My ex hubby got his degree in Electrnics Technology at public tech school in Louisiana and when all was said and done he paid no more and a couple of grand for tuition and then his books and supplies. All these for profit schools should be shut down and let community college workforce programs take over. They are run by the state, accredited, and most 4 year colleges will accept the credit, or states should (Like Louisiana, the only thing that state ever did that was good) open public technical schools. The quicker people stop attending these FAKE schools the better off everyone will be. I must say that I don't know of a lot of companies that hire these students and if they do its for 10.00 an hour dead end jobs.
