I contacted Bob Griffen of Bob's Door Service of Livonia who sent us John Colangelo (CDH Construction in Livonia according to his card) and his helper Steve for door installation.
On. Nov. 23, 2013, Mr. John Colangelo and his helper Steve came to replace laundry side exterior door at agreed cost of $240 for removing storm door and the exterior door and installing already purchased new door and old storm door. After they left, I spent more than 4 hours to stop cold air coming thru the interior straps and wide open cracks since they were improperly installed over existing molding at the bottom. I had to pry open straps in order to remove the molding, cut the straps, place a new molding, pack more insulation inside and outside and caulk inside and outside. While they were there, he convinced me to replace current storm door by a new one since he said that there would be an inch of gap at the bottom with the old storm door. I said to put the door sweep at the bottom (I already had one) to close the gap and he said it would not look good. He took the old storm door and sold for scrap. I paid him $240 with the understanding that he will install storm door when I get one. Based upon his guidance for 30 inch door and later installation, I ordered new storm door and informed him that it would take 2 weeks at Menard. The door is now in my garage. I called him several times asking him to contact me to schedule installation. To this date he did not return any of my calls. As per the agreement, $240 includes the installation of the storm door. It is not fair that I had to spend 4 plus hours of my time to finish the job properly and on the top of that he would not return my call for installation of the storm door. I sent him a letter on Dec. 18, 2013 requesting him to call for finishing this job but no response so far. I trusted him by paying the full price although the job was not finished. Now he does not even have common courtesy to call back.
I hired another person after more than 6 months of waiting and found out the opening is uneven and short of correct opening width to install the storm door. Also the brick molding installed were incorrectly cut so that there is no flat surface for storm door frame to sit properly. The installer had to remove brick molding and install new one with proper cut. I had to spend more than $100 more and spend countless hours of my valuable time and suffered aggravation. I have filed complaints with Better Business Bureau, Michigan Attorney General but he would not respond to them either.
I will never hire him again. Please be aware.
