John Lewis service failure degenerates into something very ugly indeed

Day 1, I ordered delivery of a product pre-10.30 am the following day. Day 2, 10.30 am rolled around without delivery of my order. The website says one only needs to order by 7pm the previous evening for this service.

I called John Lewis and spoke to Natalie. The duration of the infuriating call was hald an hour. At that point, I just wanted my money back. Natalie tried to fob me off with ‘next day delivery’. If I’d wanted next day del, I’d have booked next day del Natalie dearest! She constantly put me on hold, all the while telling me she was going to take me through the refund process which she never did. I asked for a call reference and was told there was none. Very professional, John Lewis.

I was told some one would call me by close of play day 3. Naturally, no one called. So I had to waste my time chasing JL once again for a refund. I called and spoke to Ian, who after putting me on hold for 15 CHARGEABLE minutes also failed to refund my money.

To add insult to injury, than night, a note was found through the door, left by City Link couriers, who appeared to be a month behind, as it was dated July when it was August, and the time given as SS46, whatever that means.

I rang City Link the next day to be told it was for a John Lewis delivery. Thus they were still trying to deliver the cancelled product that should have been delivered pre 10.30 am days ago had JOHN LEWIS fulfilled its contractual obligation.

That day I received a call from JL telling me I would be refunded, with £50 for shoddy service and the cost of my unnecessary phone calls. BUT.......................................

The following week I was at work, when I received a call from an inarticulate halfwit standing outside my home house, attempting to make a delivery from John Lewis! I assume this individual was from City Link. I was absolutely livid and told him to go away since the order had been cancelled the previous weel. He had a go at me telling me it was up to me to sort the mess out, so I hung up on him.

I then received, from the courier, the following 2 text messages to my mobile number, which is a business line:

10.32 am: "You know your (sic) really rude"

10.36 am: "Just for been (sic) rude. Your parcel is at xxx (a neighbour). Sort out your own mess."

So John Lewis employs a courier company with a staff member who thinks it acceptable to use a traceable number to send a customer abusive text messages.

I contacted John Lewis immediately and spoke to Liz. I told her in no uncertain terms I wanted the name of this individual and I wanted a written guarantee that this individual would not communicate further and would stay away from my home. Liz later called me back and asked me to forward the two texts to an individual at the courier company, Louisa W. She acknowledged receipt and said some one would get back to me.

When I returned home that night, the package had not been left with a neighbour. Thus, the second text was purely to annoy me.

Unsurprisingly perhaps for outfits of this calibre, no one from either JL nor the courier company has been in touch. Perhaps they lack the ability grasp the security implications: an individual who is not wrapped too tightly has your customer's name, number and address…………………….

My neighbours are on high alert to call police if anyone is seen loitering in the vicinity. Who knows what else this individual is capable of?

Today, over a week after cancellation of the order, follOWing JOHN LEWIS' FAILURE TO FULFIL ITS CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATION, I checked my balance and contrary to JL’s assurances, I have NOT been refunded the monies.

They sent me an inane email telling me I had to return the delivery slip to get a refund – something I cannot do since the order was not delivered as per the contract. This was made clear to them in several calls – their non-delivery was the reason for cancellation!

sO - I have been scammed by JOHN LEWIS which is currently in breach of UK distance selling regulations, as long as they fail to refund me.

I have now had to turn to my card provider to refund the monies stolen via this online scam.
