Description Of Work:  They were supposed to install a new CPU system in my car but after 6 months when I complained they refused to do the work as requested.  So they did not perform any services but they did take my money. QUICK NOTE BEFORE I START THEY'VE HAD MY CAR FOR NINE MONTHS AND HAVE ADMITTED TO VIOLATING NJ CONSUMER FRAUD ACT.  JONATHAN MOTOR CARS IS BEING SUED AND THEIR BETTER BUSINESS BUREA RATING IS A D OVER THE SITUATION I DESCRIBE BELOW.  BUYER BEWARE AND PLEASE IF YOU ARE EVEN THINKING ABOUT GOING TO THIS PLACE READ MY STORY!  I BUYER BEWARE BUYER BEWARE!

I brought my 1986 Buick Grand National to Jonathan Motorcars to have a new CPU system installed on December 8th 2011.  They informed me I would have to put down a few thousand to purchase the system which I agreed to and gave them 2,650.00 specifically for CPU system not for any other service.  I was not given any invoice, estimate  NOTHING.  They eagerly took my check, however.  Fast forward to April 2012 when I called the service dept. about my car as when I initially dropped the car off they said it would be done around Feb.  In April they said it would be done soon but wouldn't give me a specific date.  I then waited and in June I called again and asked to speak to the owner.  I got a Mr. Andy Arnold on the phone and complained that it was 6 + months that they had my vehicle and that I didn't want this to get ugly I just wanted the CPU system installed and for me to have my baby back.  He told me that he didn't bake cakes and it would get done when it got done.  This upset me and I said that I would get my attorney involved if he didn't do the job I requested.  He then informed me that he found "NEW" things wrong with the car and that they fixed these issues.  I DID NOT AUTHORIZE ANY WORK TO BE DONE ON THE CAR BESIDES THE NEW CPU SYSTEM.  I told him to immediately halt what ever they were doing and to give me back my vehicle.  He informed me my engine was at the machine shop and I would have to pay that bill also.

I immediately contacted my attorney who they have avoided even to this day.  I also contacted the Better Business Bureau and NJ's Consumer Fraud Dept.  The BBB contacted them and they did not respond.  The BBB dropped their rating immediately to a D.  The NJ Consumer Fraud investigator tried multiple times to contact them and they ignored their phone calls and letters.  The assistant director attempted to physically go to Jonathan Motors with still zero cooperation.  My attorney finally got a hold of the owner and informed him just to give the vehicle back as they have no paperwork authorizing ANY work and the only work that I wanted them to do they refused because and this is VERBATIM from the owner "WE DON'T WORK WITH COSTUMERS THAT GET LAWYERS AND COMPLAIN.  WE'RE NOT DOING THE CPU AND WE'RE CHARGING FOR EVERYTHING WE'VE DONE TO THE CAR AUTHORIZED OR NOT"  She then read him the Consumer Fraud Act and he readily admitted he violated it but I'd have to take him to court.  The police have been there twice to request the release of the vehicle and each time the officer's admit that they are violating Consumer Fraud but that it is a civil matter.  They now have my car in the show room with the hood up and are attempting to lure customers in with my car as it is in show condition and are hinting selling it.  I know they cannot sell it as it's my property but it's just added pain to the mental affliction they have already caused.  Now there is a court order for them to release the car and we are suing them under the Fraud Act.

IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO SUFFER FOR NINE MONTHS LIKE I HAVE WITH THIS DEALERSHIP DO NOT GO THERE!!!!  THEY READILY ADMIT TO VIOLATING CONSUMER RIGHTS AND DARE YOU TO SUE THEM.  MY CAR IS STILL BEING HELD HOSTAGE ALONG WITH THE 2,650.00 I GAVE THEM FOR A CPU SYSTEM THEY NEVER INSTALLED.  THEY ARE ALSO SAYING I OWE THEM AN ADDITIONAL THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS BECAUSE THEY DID MYSTERY REPAIRS.  I'm attaching the NJ Consumer Fraud Act so everyone is aware.  Remember this dealership PROVIDED ZERO INVOICES AND DIDN"T GET MY AUTHORIZATION IT'S A CLEAR CUT CASE OF FRAUD!!  I cannot SCREAM BUYER BEWARE LOUD ENOUGH!!

Please read the law below-- New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs Regulations (N.J.A.C 13:45A-1 et seq.)section 26C.2 "Deceptive practices; automotive repairs" it says (skipping excess verbiage in order to get to the point):...the following acts or omissions shall be deceptive practices in the conduct of... an automotive repair...:Commencing work for compensation without securing one of the following... Specific written authorization from the customer, signed by the customer, which states the nature of the repair requested or problem presented...Commencing work for compensation without... Providing the customer with a written estimated price to complete the repair...Charging the customer for work done or parts supplied in excess of any estimated price given, without... consent of the customer, which shall be obtained... before the work... is done... If such consent is oral, the dealer shall make a notation on the repair order and on the invoice of the date, time, name of person authorizing the additional repairs and the telephone number called, if any, together with a specification of the additional parts and labor and the total additional cost.

First off, my family has purchased 2 vehicles from this place with nothing but a good experience. As a matter of fact my sister purchased a warranty and they honored that a few times already with no problem. Just like how it is supposed to be. I was on here looking at fraud reports because I trust no one. Even knowing they seem to be reputable I still check stuff out. I realize some of the cars I am personally interested in I checked out there recently I may be better off going through an actual dealer because of price and certified warranty etc.. But that's about it. Dude, you took a grand national to a car dealer to get work done? Lol. Why? Ever heard of a speed shop? And I bet you will get nowhere with this case because let's face it.. Who the f**k writes a check for ANYTHINg without walking out with a invoice? No one. Only an asswipe moron. I get a receipt when I buy dog food and save it in case my dog doesn't like it. Maybe you should learn to work on your own car like a real Motörhead bro. I bet you asked for s**t to be done you couldn't afford and then dont want to pay just like every other piece of s**t in this low class area. But honestly, this s**t sounds made up. No one is that much of a clown. You wouldn't catch me positioning a pen in my hand without a receipt of some sort. What are you an early Native American from when there was only handshake deals for potatos in exchange for corn maize or something? You just amused the s**t out of me man. Why show your own stupidity to everyone? Even If this did happen which sounds very hard to believe, get an invoice before you hop in your Chevy berretta to drive off with Sheryl and the kids with no shoes on genius.

Rich, I'm sure your legal representative would advice you against what you have been doing. We have noticed your comments and accusations posted all over the internet by yourself, friends, and family. We have not only taken note but also forwarded all to our legal team, including every wonderful Facebook comment posted by each one of your friends in direct correlation to the facts you have presented them.

Please not that you will be held liable for any and all slander under the "slander per se" act of NJ. Reputation is something we take seriously. False information, slander, and defamation of character will not be something we will take lightly.

Please note that you have been a usual customer to a specific mechanic on the premises for many years, hence why there was originally a lack of c.y.o.a. due to a false representation of trust on your part. However, please be aware that all conversations via text messaging, cell phone picture transfers, and verbal confirmations have been noted and filed. If you say you have no record of any work being done, nor approved any, then please expect a very enlightening day in court.

Unfortunately for the dealership, when the BBB called back there was no one available to respond effectively. Andy did not reply to the BBB in the beginning, reason being, that at that time he was unaware of the situation.

I applaud your research, however a little more research on our business itself may be enlightening as well. Jonathan Motorcars is a dealership, with a service department. It does not rebuild t-type race cars. Not only does it look as if you're barking up the wrong tree, but a multi-million dollar company with a legal team may not have been the best choice.

The intelligent thing to do if you are expecting to take legal action for anything, is to be quiet, and not attempt to ruin a business' reputation under anger and false pretenses with your friends to "get back at them" while you are attempting to take legal action. You may not want to pay for the services that were done to your car, instead you decided to get into a legal battle that will cost more than it would have to settle.

We refuse and will not go back and forth. Please note that if you decide to continue on your path of attempted destruction with false information, will will continue to quietly sit aside and await our court hearing with all the information we have. If you decide to take that route, please have your checkbook ready.

We at first preferred to just eat the loss in order to keep our reputation against someone like you, but you have gone too far and now it has become about principle. Like I stated before, you are up against a multi-million dollar company with a legal team and a file full of specifics that you are falsely denying, plus leaving slander, portraying fase information, and recruiting others to attempt to do the same as well. You're doing great so far, please continue, you're best best player on our team right so far.

1. Jonathan Motorcars BBB rating was dropped to a D due to non cooperation with the bureau not because of a report.

2. Mr. Arnold has admitted to both attorney's and myself that his company has violated the NJ Consumer Fraud Act.  See the attachment above in the initial complaint to see for yourself.

3. All repairs done to a motor vehicle must include an invoice/estimate which is signed by the consumer and if any modification to the repairs are made by the shop the consumer must consent in writing.

4. If you read the complaint you see that no invoice nor estimate was provided to the consumer.

5. The police admitted they were not well versed on white collar crime and acknowledged to both the consumer and Mr. Arnold that it appeared that Jonathan Motors was in violation of Consumer Fraud.  However, since the Ofc. admitted he wasn't versed on that particular law he decided it would be best decided civilly.  A judge is now ruling on this case.

6. If Mr. Arnold had cooperated with the Better Business Bureau and had nothing to hide why did he not comply with any of their requests?  If he did nothing wrong why not cooperate?

7. Why is Mr. Arnold not cooperating with the Assistant Director of NJ's Consumer Fraud Div?  Again if he did nothing wrong why not cooperate?

8. I'm glad that Jonathan Motors has donated to charity and I applaud him being a Christian. However, even the most devoted Christians make mistakes and the only way to correct a mistake is to admit the folly and make amends to the consumer.  This is not a question of one's personal character simply a warning of a very negative experience with a company.

9. There will be no further rebuttal on my part so if you'd like to make more notes about how much they have done for the community then fantastic.  The sad thing is charity for cancer patients isn't retribution for violating the law of New Jersey.

Jonathan Motorcars is the most honest and most personable business i've ever done business with! All of our friends and family in the community have been going there for years. They are a christian dealership and are always helping the community and even supported a cancer foundation a couple months back in their dealership. Everyone in our church only uses him for service and buying our cars.

We know Andy and his family personally, and they are amazing!
This person above must not be telling the whole truth, or turning everything around. That dealership has been striving to always have the best reputation, and like this person states above, Jonathan's has always had the best BBB rating until he came around and is trying to take advantage of a righteous family. This so called "rippoff report" is disgusting to read, and should not be taken seriously. For Andy to be "holding a car" it must for a reason (if that is true), and if the "police have been there twice to take the car" and it is still there then there is a reason for that which is not being portrayed in the side of the story above.

Wow. you must be proud to say mean things about this dealership and your proof is that you brought them from an A to a D with the BBB. That shows you are the bad guy not them. There is a reason they were an A with nothing on this website before, ever. Do your parents know you are doing this?
