This report only recently came to my attention, and while I am to some extent concerned that revisiting an issue nearly three years old may unnecessarily reignite it, I an nevertheless compelled to respond in order to set the record straight. Ms. Abey Cabrera's posting is a copy of a document she presented management following her failed attempt to extort a 30% salary increase at her 3-month probationary interview. To respond to each accusation individually would be pointless; she was clearly hoping SOMETHING would resonate and give her some room to negotiate. Many of her accusations are true, however taken completely out of context. For instance, she WAS given a day at a spa in exchange for some extra hours she had put in so early on in her tenure. There was nothing underhanded about this; it is strange to hear her later complain about NOT receiving compensation for extra time, while in this first point she seems upset to have been compensated at all. Ms. Cabrera is equally misguided in her allegation regarding my age. She alleges I said I was "25" in order to woo her; that I was actually five years older than that. I said I was 25, when she asked, because I was. This is very easily verifiable. The "discount on a new car" allegation is equally ridiculous. There was nothing contingent upon her having been referred to a salesman that I bought my car from. I said he would take care of her. End of story. These issues are peripheral, however, to the more serious allegations of "indirect and direct sexual harassment." Ms. Cabrera alleges that she did not take action because of "filing fees" and being under a "probationary period." Strange that a claim of sexual harassment to Human Rights Canada does not require a filing fee, nor is it bound by any "probationary period." I would suggest more realistically that her cowardly posting on the internet is the only action taken because she knows her lies cannot stand up to scrutiny. She attempts to paint what had hitherto been very amicable social interchange in much more sinister tones. It is no coincidence that Ms. Cabrera, who up until her probationary review was inviting me to her family functions and social outings, suddenly took issue with such an extensive list of issues after her request for a 30% increase was denied. I have at present elected not to pursue this matter further, despite the profoundly negative impact it has had on many aspects of my life and career. I make this election based on the hopeful belief that in the nearly three years since Ms. Cabrera posted this report she has since found a position she is happy in, and is regretful (more probably unaware) of the impact that her misrepresentations have had. If that is the case, nothing positive would be accomplished by my taking civil action against this defamation of character.
