On June 24 I sent this breeder $300 email money transfer as a deposit for an exotic shorthair kitten. In our intial emails she was friendly and helpful but as soon as she received my deposit I did not hear from her. I wrote her July 13 to get an update on him. Which she did reply. On July 26 I told her I didnt think I could purchase this kitten at the time because my husband lost his job and I was awaiting surgery. I asked to be put on the waitlist for her next litter. On July 31 I was feeling bad for not getting this kitten I wrote her back and said if he still available I would love to have him as my husband got on at new jobsite. She said he was available and that I could have him so I asked her to ship him to me as she told me he would be ready to go at that time in our intial email. She told me she was going to keep him till September because she felt like it would be too warm to send him. I told her I did not want the kitten to be in any danger and if it was too risky I can wait for the next litter. She convinced me to stay put with this kitten because she thought it would be too cold to send a kitten from the the next litter. I said ok I really care for this kitten I told her to send me flight options as I work shift work and need notice. Well 4 weeks(august 31) had past no emails, no pics, no updates and supposely she said she was going to send him the beginning of September. So on August 31 I said forget it just send my deposit back seeing how you are reluctant to send me the kitten. She refused and accused me of backing out because she didnt send me a pic. She told me she doesnt do updates etc This lady told me multiple dates for sending this kitten. If I ever got him he would be full grown lol She did not have pictures of the parents when I asked her, only a old kitten picture of the mother. When she was reluctant to send him because of heat which by the way I only live in Nova Scotia I told her I could wait and she said no because it might be too cold. I feel like she never had any intention of sending me any kitten. As soon as she got my money I wouldn't hear from her. Weeks would go by. If I am spending 1100 plus 250 shipping on a kitten it would be nice to get a update or a picture. Now I am out $300 and have no kitten :( Buyer beware!!

Apparently, the complainant against Karabel has no idea of the quality of Karabel's kittens and cats, and how lucky she was to even have been able to purchase a kitten from Karabel.
I am so disgusted by the filing of this ripoff report. I am happy to see it resolved, but the complainant should have researched before jumping to incorrect conclusions and filing this report.
Karabel produces some of the finest, most beautiful kittens and cats in the world. Karabel's owner has had many, many show winners in the past 25 years. Her kittens, cats, and cattery are perfect and are very well known.
I personally have sent deposits and purchased two of Karabel's beautiful cats, and I can attest to the fact that she is an extremely caring and reputable breeder and owner. She only cared about the safety of this kitten and careful shipment and tried to accommodate this ungrateful buyer!
When I saw this ripoff report, I had to add this comment in support of Karabel and its owner. She went out of her way to make sure my kitties arrived to me safely and in excellent condition and health, and she has always been very supportive and has promptly answered all of my questions.

Christine from Karabel Cattery and I the original poster of this report were able to settle our differences. Misunderstandings and miscommunications led us to this disagreement on the kitten. I wish her the best and have no bad things to say about her or her cattery.

If you choose to write a rip off review, please make sure you state the facts. Show me where in any of our correspondence that the price of your kitten was $1,100 plus $250 shipping. This is an absolute outright lie!!! Also, you should mention the YOU backed out of our agreement to purchase Merlin NOT me.....hence this is the reason your deposit was not returned. If I backed out I would have graciously returned your deposit. This is common practice of which you are well aware of. I was always willing to ship your kitten as he was healthy and ready to go by mid Sept. so not exactly sure where this “rip-off” exists?? Plus, YOU never once asked for photos of Merlin during the period in question. If you really wanted pictures, why didn't you ask for them? It was in Merlin’s best interest to ship him in September and by mid September his age would have been 3 months and 3 weeks.....hardly an ADULT!! If you truly cared about his well being this would have been a very acceptable time line as we in Toronto had an extremely hot summer so shipping him in August could have been dangerous!! Because I was not willing to put his life in jeapordy to suit your time line, you said you didn't want him if I couldn't ship him immediately. My priority is the health and safety of the kitten, not trying to accommodate an overly demanding customer. Very young kittens have a very delicate immune system. It is also a well know fact that kittens are not even allowed to enter a show hall younger than 4 months of age due to their immature immune system. Kittens are shown in kitten class at cat shows from 4 months until they reach the age of 8 months. Merlin would have been three months and three weeks of age when I was ready to ship him......Still a very young kitten! Since the life span is around 15 years and extra 2 weeks was not a lot to ask. Dissappointed 30, your review is full of lies!!

The price of the kitten was 900+200 for shipping. Not 1100 plus shipping.
