Karen Suesz provided me with what I felt was the worst customer service I have ever experienced from a cattery! I feel I need to tell my story so hopefully others considering buying from her will be more careful than I was. I lost my money, got no cat, and I don't want to see this happen to anyone else.
We had talked on and off about the possibliity of me getting one of her cats for a couple of months and she seemed nice enough. That is, before I gave her any money. I was going to do a trade with her on a cat, but she wasted me to pay for the cat--an inexpensive doll face(minus the cost for breeding rights)and then she wanted me to GIVE her a show faced kitten in exchange. We ended up not doing that but it was never set in stone anyway, no money was exchanged.
Well later I saw that she still had her cats for sale so I was going to just buy one. We talked for awhile, again, she had plenty of time for me and was very nice. Now, normally I would NEVER buy from someone six hours away, but when I asked Karen if she could meet me halfway, she offered me an even better deal... I told her where I lived and she said for only $50.00 she could have the cat driven all the way to Southern Indiana by her friend who is a proffesional driver for a moving company. I told her that sounds great, sure! So I went ahead and sent her $300.00 paypal because I wanted to hurry up and get the cat paid for fast. I then only owed her another $100.00. But right after I paid her, Karen pretty much dropped off the radar. I didn't hear from her for awhile at all.
On a second examination of the ad for the cat, I realized the ad was several months old and I thought, wow she might look totally different now. So I asked Karen Suesz for an updated photo and that's when my nightmare began. She told me no problem, I'll take some photos, but days went by and no photos came. I would ask again on different occasions several days apart and get some generic excuse every time... busy at home, at a kids game, camera not working, cell phone pictures not good enough...and then I didn't hear back from her at all for a good long while. I say generic excuse because we all know how easy it is to take a photo and send it! I am a small hobby breeder myself and I have done it many times, it takes less than 5 minutes! I even told her a cell phone photo was fine!
Eventually, I got the hospital excuse, this was after quite an extended period of being flat out IGNORED over text, email, and unanswered phone calls. Yet I saw that during this time, she was able to create a new website and update all of her ads. (later on she tried to tell her her friend did the ads and website, I contacted this friend and she denied it) SHe said she was so sorry, but she was being released that day and I would get my picture. I waited(days), and surprise surprise NO PHOTO!!!
Well as you can imagine, by now, after all these ridiculous excuses and being ignored, I had enough! I was wondering if she even had the cat, if the cat was alive or hurt, etc... I wrote her and told her how I felt, as kindly as possible, and told her I didn't like the way I was being treated, as her customer, and I would just like my money back. She wrote back once admitting she had treated me wrong, saying she understood why I fealt leary and that she does not give refunds... But when I filed a paypal dispute her attitude immediatly became nasty. That is because Karen has dealt with people wanting their moey back before and she knew once I filed a paypal dispute she had won, because paypal does not cover live animals. So now that she knew I was at her mercy, she took on a totally different and terrible attitude.
I tried to work something out to still get a cat to avoid loosing my money but now she refused HER promised delivery, and also refused to meet me halfway, knowing that I was unable to make a 12 hour round trip. After all, why should she bother? I feel that because she already had my money and knew I couldn't get it back, and I didn't owe her much more, she probably thought the balance wasn't worth her time and gas.
During all this, she had also threatened me telling me NOT to file a report against her online, "because that's a two way street". I have resigned myself to the fact that my money is gone, and Karen will resell the cat and make double. But it is my right to tell anyone who wants to hear what happened to me(I am not the only one to have ever complained). I have had bad experience with other breeders here and there, but for the most part breeders have been very nice and helpful. This one tops them all, I have never been treated with such poor service or such a bad attitude. And in my opinion, if Karen really is so sick that she is in the hopsital a lot and is unable to deal with her customers, she should probably consider getting out of breeding!
I hope to save others from an experience like mine. Please think twice before buying from Karen Suesz of Lovenlearn Kittys / Classykatz! A couple other quick things to mention, Karen states all of her cats are PKD negative, but when I asked her for the test results, she said she didn't have them, but claimed the cats came from negative catteries. So she has not tested her cats as she claims. Also, I read something posted about her online from someone else saying that she was breeding cats that she "rescued" from horrible conditions in the trailer of what seemed to be a horder who passed away. What I read said most of these cats were PKD positive and had ringworm and other health problems. I can't vouch for the truth of that because someone else said it, but to me it's just another reason to stay away from Karen.
A breeders first two priorities should be healthy cats, and HAPPY customers. A breeder should go out of their way to make their customer feel like a friend and they should always be available to answer questions or send a photo. If the breeder has caused you to be very unhappy with your sale for whatever reason, even if "customer service" isn't discussed in the contract, a good breeder would rather give your money back, or at least do something to compensate you, rather then to have an unhappy customer complaining about them.
I found a much nicer looking cat from another breeder and had no problems whatsoever with the purchase, and weeks later, that breeder still texts me and asks me how my new cat is doing and chats with me...So there are good breeders out there who will not just take your money and run. My advice: NEVER send more than the required deposit, and if you can, find a cat already weened, and don't send any deposit at all, just go get the cat and pay in person. And if the cat looks bad in ANY way(coat, weight, personality, ears, eyes, bottom) WALK AWAY, find someone else, and save yourself the heartache!
I do have all of my emails and texts concerning this transaction, for anyone interested.
