Libbey Financial Services Claimed I had won $10,000 in a chain store giveback promotion Toledo Ohio
I received a very legitimate looking check for $2,650 and a letter claiming I had won a total of $10,000. To claim the balance, I should call them at a Canadian phone number (905-781-3000.) although the letter had a P.O.Box address in Toledo, Ohio.
I called a Mr. Scott Freeman who said he would clear my check for payment and directed me to call him the next day to get instructions for the balance of $7,350.
On my call back, I was instructed to send a MoneyGram for $900 to a person I knew and then inform them of the MoneyGram receipt number.
After hanging up, I checked the Bertter Business Bureaus in Ontario, Canada and Toledo, Ohio and was informed that this was definately a scam. The Toledo address is fake and the check also is not legitimate.
Also, the "Scott Freeman" who answered the phone on my second call was an entirely different voice than on my first call.
Needless to say, I did not pursue this scam any further,
