Lowes Florescent bulbs with long life claims are a rip off! Logan, Utah
Early this year, my wife and I purchased 12 round 12 watt compact florescent (curly cue inside) "Bright Effects" bulbs to replace the incandescent bulbs in our bathroom fixtures. The incandescent bulbs had lasted 2 - 3 years and were 60 watt bulbs; 720 watts total draw. I wanted to save on electricity and was willing to spend the extra $$ for a long life bulb with a lower electrical demand. After about 6 months, all but 2 have failed.
My wife took a batch of 6 them back to Lowes several weeks ago and she was told she would have to file a claim with the manufacturer (they did find our receipt). She was also told by the department head something about the using the wrong wattage for the fixture. Well, since we replaced the existing bulbs that were at a higher wattage and lasted several years, why would florescent bulbs with a lower wattage cause a problem? Go figure.
From my research, the Bright Effects is a Lowes brand name and are made by different manufacturers depending on the particular bulb.
