Maxwell barren Craiglist house scam Internet
I was looking on craigslist.org for a home to rent and saw a very nice deal for a home, 2bed 2bath for I think 800 or so. I e-mailed with a reply asking for pictures or an address. He sent this:
Greetings to you, Thank you for the most eloquent response to my listing,and sorry for not getting back to you earlier, I'm the owner of the apartment you are making inquiry of. Actually my parents resided in the apartment,before i lost both parents in a ghastly Vehicle accident, so i had to decide to let it out since i grew up here in West Africa with my fathers half brother working in a charity organization here in the West Africa.So presently my apartment is still available which i inherited from my late parents for rent . It includes utilities like hydro, washer and security, I have my furniture in the apartment. if you wish to move in with your furnished items there is a storage area where you can move my furniture's, no problem. Please i want you to note that i am a kind and honest person and without me telling you, you should know that my parents must have spent a fortune on the property that i want to give you for rent, i will want you to take absolute care of my apartment and I want you to treat it as your own, as trust is the most important thing but i want you to keep it tidy all the time so that i will be glad to see it neat when i come for check up.All utilities included except electric (Heat, A/C, Gas, Cable, High Speed, Internet, Water, Sewer, Trash Removal).

(He used a random address obviously, when I google maped it, it came up a beautiful home.. worth much more than 800/mo)

I then figured it was a scam, so I asked a few more questions to make sure. I questioned about pets and what not, he replied:
Am happy with your mail, you sound like the right person, am happy with the question you asked me, the place is just like a family home,is a house and pets are allow in there, everything is available for you, all you just need to do is to take good care of the place when you move in, get back to me with the rent application form Asap..
Obviously egar for the rental application, he barely answered questions. I also found another report on this site in the area of Toronto, with the exact e-mail.. word for word, just a different address. Thing is.. I live in Tenneessee, USA.
Obvious scam is obvious.
