I purchased a male show papillon from sue Austin on February of 2008 about one month after I received him he started not eating, sick, at the vets constantly. when I questioned sue, she always blamed it on me.. meanwhile the dog is still losing weight.. had numerous tests done.. started showing him in shows. and he continued to get worse at the shows having to pull him from numerous shows.. and bring him home to vets. first time his kidneys were shutting down , treated with antibiotics. then seemed to get better when he was at home and not under stress.Sue told me well he needs to get over it.. took some time off with him in the show ring.. and took him to orchard park where a bile acid test was done and cat scan of his liver.Bile Acids high before and after scan showing nothing. But his gal bladder was enlarged. took him back to a show with same results. vomiting , diahrea. and not eating. made appt. for Cornell university where he underwent another bile acid test.. again higher. took him back for a nuclear scan. meanwhile another Co breeder to sue,who no longer has anything to do with her. told me that she co bred a litter with sue .. having the same lines as My male that had a liver biopsy and was diagnosed with MVD.. Meanwhile the relationship between me and sue is deteriating fast. with me confronting her. and telling me she would not give my money back I spent 2500.00 for this boy. as a show dog! At Cornell university. the Liver Queen out there determined with all the problems and knowing that she had a related dog of my dog diagnosed. it is MVD with all his problems with weight gain.
took her to court for the money , and she literally told the judge I needed to return the dog.( to what put him down and sweep it under the rug..) I told the judge that was not what I wanted to do. I could not after caring for him eighteen months just turn him over to her. the judge asked her and what is her restitution sue replied NOTHING! well to make matter short judge ruled she was unethical, as a breeder and unconsciousable , I was able to keep my boy. with restitution of 1,020.00 not near what I have put into him of the amount 2500. vet bill amounting to 4097.00 and continuing.. Sue Austin knew of this affliction in her lines . and of the other puppy. and did not disclose when I asked her. Just kept putting the blame on someone else.. or me .. and my care.
I want to get the word out PLEASE BE CARFUL WHEN BUYING FROM HER..
she is still breeding his parents. thus, possible putting someone els heart on the line and the added expense. of unsuspecting people.. I called the agricultural markets. which is a friend of sue Austins. and get no where.. with that..

I am the breeder of this puppy. According to the Ultra sound done at Orchard Park NY on May 20, 2010 , and I am quoting from the report " There are no abnormal findings, specifically I can find not evidence of a portosystemic shunt".
There has never been any proff to any findings of this puppy having a shunt, only speculation.
I offered Ms. Miller her full refund if she would return his AKC paper over to me signed so this dog could not be used for breeding since she does have females in her home. This was refused. Even though I was taken to court, the Judge did NOT find that this dog had liver shunt as was stated in the case, and although the judge did not award her the amount she sued me for, he did feel he had been sick, and after 2 and 1/2 years of being treated I was to pay for his medical expenses which only amounted to the $1000 in vet fees.
I personally have had no knowledge of any of my puppies ever developing Liver shunt, although a person that had some of my same lines did have one diagnosed with Microvascular Dysplasia which I was not aware of at the time this puppy was sold.
There have been stories of another puppy being told it had liver shunt which I owned which is also not true. We were at a show, she ate to fast and developed a bit of bloat which she was seen at a Animal Hospital out of state late that night. She was treated for such and was happy and healthy before leaving the clinic to return to our motel and was shown for the next three days. She is now 9 years old, spayed and living happily in a wonderful loving pet home.
I would never take a puppy away from his home, and glad he is in a caring home. I tried in the past to resolve this issue and was met with nastyness which still continues. He was sold as a show dog, and had both his majors and only 6 points left to finish his Championship. I never withnessed him sick and I was at almost all the shows he attended.
People can say anything they want but to prove it may be another issue!!

We are on our 2nd Pappion form Sue. The first one lived only approximately 16 years. He was my best friend and he was the greatest. We lost him to cancer. We are on our second dog from her. She is a RESPONSIBLE breeder. If there was any known flaw in the line that was known it would have been a "pet only" sale, and simply the breeder dogs would never have had another litter. I am sure of that. If someone can tell how a breeder can know that there is something wrong with a dog that it takes Cornell to figure out just let me know! Point is that when you buy a living animal it is not like a car, you cant tell if something is going to happen and even the vets are still "practicing" medicine. This I truely feel is a case of a unhappy customer and that the breeder has done nothing wrong. I can vouch for her ethics as a breeder. She cares about the dogs, (even the ones that are not show quality) and would never ever knowingly run a bad genetic line. Its not about the money for her.
