MEGA Health Insurance, MEGA Life And Health Insurance Scam North Richland Hills Texas
I agree with other disgruntled MEGA Life and Health Insurance policy holders. This company should more correctly identify itself as a "discount" service, since the only benefit I've ever received from it (and from my "membership" in NASE) is the negotiated fee on doctor visits.
I first became affiliated with NASE/MEGA when I left the public sector to start my own business in California in the 1980s. My agent assured me that should anything catastrophic occur, MEGA would step up to the table. I have faithfully forked over my ever increasing premiums (increased every six months) and appreciated the negotiated fees when I (seldom) visited my doctor. I never exceeded what I thought was my deductible, so I never really questioned the value of my policy. I was secure in the knowledge that MEGA would be there should I ever really need assistance with medical bills. I live in Arizona now and recently underwent emergency heart surgery. The hospital bill alone amounted to $52,000. Did MEGA step up to the table? You bet...it paid $3,600. Period. End of story. Its rep. indicated that because of a cap that was all the company was liable to pay. When I questioned lab tests and diagnostics and follow-up that went unpaid, I was told that my $1,000 deductible was actually $1,000 deductible in each of several categories.
MEGA is a company I CANNOT recommend. Had I paid my premiums into a HSA--which didn't exist when I first took out "insurance," a term that should not be associated with this company--instead of paying them to MEGA, I would have had more than enough to cover the amounts billed. Paying premiums to MEGA is money down the toilet.
