Mid City Auto Salvage ripoff - Never Ever deal with these people who commit interstate Fraud Milwaukee Wisconsin
This company is to be avoided at all costs. I contacted them looking for a 97 Toyota Celica engine, and they got back to me and said they had one with 35,000 miles for $995. Sounded good so I paid for it. About 2 weeks later it arrived, but because the truck didn't have a liftgate it went back to the depot. No one said that this would be a problem.
Several days later it arrived, and after paying $69 just for the liftgate it was taken off the truck at my mencanics. 2 more weeks went by as my mechanic was busy working on other cars.
When he finally opened the stretch wrap, he saw problems. He tried to switch some parts from my original engine but shortly found out that too many parts wouldn't fit. The tip off was that this engine didn't have the necessary sensors.
My mechanic called Toyota and after a long discussion determined that this engine was a late 80s type from a truck! And according to wear and tear had at least 100,000 miles on it. When my mechanic called Mid City he spoke to Shauwn who started yelling at him and then hung up the phone.
I called Mid City and spoke to John and said that this wasn't a 97 engine, and he said, "Well you didn't talk to me originally, so I didn't tell you that it was". What a crap line that was, and I said that didn't he work for the same company? He just said I'm only a manager.
I then sent an e-mail and photos showing the big differences in the engines, and their reply was just send it back for a refund!
Well, after reading all these horror stories on this site, I don't want to send this engine back without getting a full refund check FIRST!
The Better Business Bureau said that they had 223 complaints about Mid City over the last 3 years out of which about 132 have not been settled.
A certified letter has been sent to them, and if I don't get a favorable answer, I will file a court action and it will wind up costing them a lot more than they bargained for. Besides the $995 for the engine, there will be court costs, attorneys fees, and punitive damages.
I heard them laughing over the phone when the speakerphone was left on, and some rather damaging info as well. So if these guys think that they will get away with this because I'm not in their state...guess what guys...no matter. I've got the Milwaukee DA's advice, the FBI, the Federal Trade Commission and many others on my side. Afterall...this is Interstate Fraud!
