Our family purchased two puppies for $1268 each from Milllstones Golden on Sunday, May 1, 2016. A puppy for us and a puppy for our daughter. By their contract, the puppies needed be seen by a vet within three days of purchased and any health issues needed to be brought to their immediate attention. We kept our part of that arrangement.
Our puppy was sick and diaginosed with parvovirus on Wed., May 4th and hospitalized a total of 12 days at a cost of $1800. Since we live 4 1/2 hours away from the breeder, it was agreed that it was unreasonable and unsafe to transfer the puppy back to Millstones for treatment.
Our daughter's puppy was also diagnosed with parvovirus and was hospitalized a total of 14 days at a cost to them of $2000 for partial treatment and then they transfered the puppy to Millstones' vet to complete the expensive treatment. Their puppy was also diagnoised with a heart mumur which ended up being a hole in his heart. Even though Millstones offers a guarantee on the hearts of their dogs, their offer was to euthanize the puppy and replace it with another puppy of the same age that had spent the first 5 months in a cage. Unacceptable. My daughters puppy underwent heart surgery at Michigan State University at a cost of apx. $3500. Millstones refused to help pay for the surgery.
We were both finally offered purchase price refunds. After many months of asking, my daughter was paid back. After 6 months of emails, text messages and phone calls and no refund, I began commenting on their facebook page asking when my refund could be expected. We were refunded $500 and received a text message warning..."I just refunded 500.00. For every negative comment you post on social media that I see I will deduct a 100.00 from my courtest refund. I want you to understand that. My contract says we do not give refunds. Please refrain from negative comments".
I had been promised a refund for 5 months before I began posting on Millstones Facebook page. I didn't make negative comments, I just asked when I could expect my refund.
Although I think Millstones owes me much more, at the very least, I want the rest of my refund.
Please be wary of this breeder. Kill and Replace is their "guarantee". I told the owner, "It's easy to be a stand-up breeder when things go well. You need to be a stand-up breeder when things don't go well, too". She didn't listen.
