In February 2012 i bought frozen semen from Am Ch Mt Joy Fortunate One ``Fortune´´ a dog from from Patricia Ellis ,Mt joy akitas.
Well, while we were dealing the conditions ,according to Patricia Ellis every was fantastic, the semen was perfect, even she had sold frozen semen to one breeder in Findland wich one has a litter of seven pups, she never had a trouble and of course she was very profesional with a lot of knowledge and she never would send me a semen with less than 70% of motility AFTER THAW , or with bad quality . She charged 2500 dollars fro the semen BUT Them the truth was very different as you all could see in the document i have attached at the end.
She sended me semen with a very bad quality , the poorest i ever seen in my life, with a thaw recovery of 40% and 58 of abnormal forms , much less than the 70 we had agreed, and much more abnormal forms than the 25% that we had agreed. I only had this information when the semen came to my country and of course i already had payed the 2500 dollars.I tried to do the breeding even against the opinion of the 3 vets from my country ,because i quote ``the semen is so bad that the breeding it´s not going to work, it does not matter the method you use, surgery or videoendoscopy´´. obviously the breeding did not work I put in contact with Patricia Ellis and informed her about the situation. Her first reaction was offer to me a puppy from a litter of hers, and i said it could be ok depending on the litter that was, but suddenly he started to put excuses.
First starting to explain to me how the reproduction works, and how much she had studied about it, for showing me that the vets and I, all of we were wrong.
Second She put in contact with a breeder in Poland who explined to them how bad was the vet that did the Artificial insemination in my country, when i am not even live in Poland, and besides the vet that did the Ai it was not the vet that they thought and the method my vet use was the same method the Vets usually use in USA.
here you have the proofs:
First let me begin by telling you I am so very sorry your breeding did not take. It would have been a great one! I have done 4 frozen semen breedings myself, 2 took and each produced one puppy. Two did not take. So I have been in your situation and had to ship semen, pay for semen upfront etc. So I do know how you feel.
thank you
Yes, I have seen Fortune’s semen report. However you are misreading it and I must admit at first so did I which is why I panicked when you wrote me. Unfortunately your vet should have known this information as it is taught in vet school and she should have explained it to you. The 40 % thaw is that of the original count of 1.820 Billion sperm, not of the 42% normal sperm.
No, i didn't misread , they explained it to me very well. Every vet specialist in reproductive i asked since i had the semen they explained to me the data: percents , amounts , mobility, motility , abnormal etc, progesterona , ovulation ,test. It was a year looking for specialists in reproductive , speaking with them , and follow their succeses , and fails also, and the reason because they didn´t have succes .
And this is something clear . Fortune´s semen don´t have, at least, 50% of motility, in fact he has less than 40% , and the only aspect he has good is the amount of sperm, wich is good , but the abnormal amount, 58% is a huge percent.Someting like that happens with Hagrid , he has a good semen for a natural breeding but his semen is not good enough for freeze, it doesn´t reach 50% of motility and he has a high percent of abnormal semen , and that it counts too
The only thing that did not survive the thawing process were the abnormal which is expected.
Yes and that's because is important this percent , thinking in after thaw
They cannot go in and separate the normal and abnormal so they simply pack the amount in each breeding to compensate. Minus the abnormal the count of normal healthy sperm was 879 million. This is enough to breed 6 bitches. Most akitas or the dogs I have brought here to breed to my girls do not or barely have this much before the abnormal are subtracted. I have done vaginal ais with only 225 normal sperm and gotten puppies. Fortune throws an astronomical amount of sperm which in turn has a fair amount of abnormal but even then his normal good sperm is very high. When you do a frozen and implant a b***h you can only inseminate with about 150 million sperm as the uterine horn only holds 4-5 ccs and this must include extender as well. Anymore simply runs out. Like flooding a lake with more than it can hold, the water runs away. When you drop this sperm on mature eggs at the precise time you should have success.
like i said before , Fortune´s semen is good for a normal/live breeding or AI without freeze . If you keep frozen semen from Fortune, from this same extraction ,sadly , you will check it
But frozen has a short life span to the timing is of great importance as is the handling and proper care of the semen, everything is very compromised.
despite all the troubles, the semen arrived with nitrogen enough and it was ok. they never manipulated the tank.
I note in your email to me that your doctor inseminated day two post ovulation. That isn’t done here, we do not do before day 3 as you want the eggs to be fully mature and ready to be fertilized when you put the semen in. So this was not done at the time set by guidelines of canine reproduction. But rather too early.
Story was ovulating on saturday , but what time did she ovulate, exactly? at 00:00 am ? at 5,6 am, or maybe the friday at 10 pm , 11 pm
the progesterona test we made on friday, in the morning , showed she was going to ovulate inminently,
so we made another test o saturday like i said, she was ovulating,we did a ultrasound diagnosis of ovulation, and we saw that ovarian follicles were immature yet .
we did the another progesterona test on monday in the morning , and another ultrasound diagnosis of ovulation.
the test said it was the day , and the ultrasound showed the ovarian follicles were mature at 9.30 pm . So i´m sure it was the right day
I spoke to two veterinarians one being Hutchinson and what was sent to you was tested before it left and you had all the sperm you needed, good sperm to make your b***h pregnant.
the Sperm is not god enough, and sadly you are going to see that , and if you want i´ll give you the vial i have from fortune as a gift , and try it
I found out yesterday in the most interesting manner some information about the vet you u sed that explains a lot of what has happened here. I will send in the next email.
thanks
This was her second e-mail
Reproduction fascinates me and I have attended many seminars and even intense ones meant only for vets and I have read many books etc. I also educate myself on the things I do so that I speak with knowledge and not ignorance. I can be a vet’s worst nightmare lol as they know I watch them and their treatment very carefully.
I am on a canine reproduction list and yesterday I posted asking for some advice and experience with frozen breedings. I hope to do another one or two in the future and wanted to hear what these breeders and few vets had to say. After I posted I got an im on fb from Blanka of finnigan Akitas in Poland and she shared with me her recent success of a litter of 9 and I think 3 or 5 from her frozen on her now deceased male Koti I believe is his name. So we talked and shared info and somehow for some reason we started talking about shipping frozen. I told her I had sent some to spain, that it was good when it left but the vet there said it was awful, terrible etc. For a moment blanka went silent and she said, what? I told her again. She said I cannot believe I am hearing this, I have goosebumps. She then says I have had the same experience lately. She says she sent semen to spain on Koti, 2 breedings and she has had 2 litters from this semen and the vet used both breedings and told the b***h owner it was terrible, bad semen, that they needed to get a replacement. She of course was upset as I was and contacted her vet who told her something is going on here. She tells me a Dr. Ana Pena did the breeding. I said I don’t know who the vet was that did this one, I will call northview and ask where the semen was sent too. I did. And lo and behold it was this Dr.. Ana Pena. Same person.
Blanka told me her vet has some friends or contacts in spain. Somehow they find out that dr. pena is using the wrong equipment and procedure to thaw the semen. It appears that she is very incompetent. Blanka is going to send me all of her information and her vets information that was gathered and I will send to you. I am going to send all of my information and vet’s information to her to share with the man who did this breeding. This is not a coincidence L
