My 1993 Ford Tempo shook at the drivers front tire area when I hit speeds around 60-75mph. I brought the vehicle in for an estimate and requested the most inexpensive fix. I was told it needed:

(Tie rod & ends / Ball joints / Control arm / transmission mount / Motor mount / and a few other items in that area)

Total for those items $588.92 In addition I was told I might want to consider replacing the drivers front tire and rim. I chose not to get the tire and rim, knowing that I could find those cheaper somewhere else and do it myself.

After the work was done the car drove EXACTLY as it did before the repairs were done. Not 'a little better'...EXACTLY as it did before I brought it in for repairs. I brought it back the next morning and was told it needs 2 front tires and that will fix the problem. If the 2 front tires will fix the problem now... Then they would have taken care of the problem before the $588.92 repair charges. I certainly would have spent $80 for 2 new tires BEFORE I wasted $588.92 on the misdiagnosed repairs.

I do not see where there was a rip-off. It seems very obvious, that you do not maintain your ride. The muffler man told you everything you needed to do to fix your car. All you wanted to do is put a band-aide on a deep open wound. You only wanted to put a wheel and tire on. That way you could still drive at 75 mph without the wheel vibration. You wanted to continue to drive at high speeds and risk your front suspension having a catastrophic failure. You do not write that they did unneeded work. You do not write that they over charged you. They even told you that the wheel and tire needed to be changed. Let me clue you in. It seems that they did everything they should. They were trying to make your ride safe at high speeds. Your issue is that you are angry because they did exactly what they should have done, but it cost you money to make your car right. Obviously your car needed the parts or you would not have given the OK.
