The stories are running rampant. So far over 40 complaints have been, or are in process with the Registrar of Contractor in Arizona against Mystic Custom Pools and Spas. There are several complaints filed with the Arizona Attorney General's Office for possible fraud and criminal intent is being considered at this time.
Nobody at this company are helping any of their prior customers, as stated in the newspaper, in fact, are leaving everyone in the lurch.
This company has taken money from people when they KNEW they were closing their doors. This company and their personnel have not paid sub-contractors, have not paid their state taxes, or any other expenses.
They took thousands and thousands of dollars from clients in the process of building their pools just the day before and the day of their closing.
There are rumors about how Jim Owen has "gotten into my face" and fights have ensued. His wife, Beverly is being targeted about how she actively pursued customers and collected vast amounts of money in the closing days and "strong armed" people.
The rumors further state that their over half a million dollar home they bought in the last six months is paid for. They have purchased new 75+ thousand dollar trucks and new cars. They've taken at least two lavish vacations in the last six months.
How much is true, how much is rumor.. an investigation will ferret out what is what and where the money is.
And, as gross as it sounds, apparently a pool company from Phoenix is moving into the Tucson market after the first of the year and it is reported that Jim Owen will be their new General Manager of Tucson Operations. NO KIDDING!
Mystic pool no longer has a valid ROC license as they failed to pay for and maintain their bond.
The whole situation is worse than reported originally in the newspaper and there are some rather obvious truths about the scam this company ran to get the money.
Pools that have been completed are running a 2 to 1 average of being a mess and needing significant work.. or be demolished and re-built.
You have no idea HOW thrilled we are that we choose to walk away from this snake. What a terrible group of people they must be to do this to others and just take the money and run.
They are disgusting.
Look out for wherever Jim Owen, Beverly Owen, Renee Cooperman, or Mike Jurado show up next..
STAY AWAY and let them suffer at least one day's worth of the angst and horror they've caused for other people.

I personally know both Jim and Bev Owen and have done business with them in the past. From what I have read here can't be true. Yes their business went down but they did not try to rip people off. They have lost a lot of money since things went bad and they have done everything they could to help those that were involved. Before you go off on them make sure you have your facts straight and know that Jim and Bev Owen are no the bad guys here. Lots of business fail every day and that is the fact of life. If you were involved with them and your pool didn't get finished there are ways to get your money back. Stop bad mouthing good people who are just trying to get ahead in this world and move on and get over it, stuff happens. The good guy

Speaking the truth about someone's business isn't attacking them, unless it isn't true and is said to distort the truth and harm them. Mystic Custom Pools and Spas, Jim and Beverly Owen, Mike Jurado and Renee Cooperman deserve what they get for not paying their sub contractors (I know of two of them who are out their due and rightfully earned money!), their suppliers, and their customers. Here is a recent case record for Pima County, Arizona Case number: CV07-22912 Plaintiff: Shasta Industries Inc., dba A&A Manufacturing. Defendant: Mystic Custom Pool & Spa LLC, Beverly Owen. Nature of complaint: Unpaid open account. Attorney for plaintiff: Henry L. Timmerman. If you check the Arizona Attorney Generals Office, the Arizona Registrar of Contractors, and Civil Court Records for the City of Tucson and Pima County you will see the real activity going on. Not hearsay or who likes who and why or why not! Also, you might want to check out the Public Access to Court Records for the owners of this company. You probably will see everything from speeding tickets to domestic abuse type things. You might like these people, you might believe they are good and honest and hard working. If I was one of the 30 plus or more people left with a mess of problems because of these people, I wouldn't be so kind and probably wouldn't have the ability to type! I would be spitting angry! Instead, I am going to enjoy my backyard today and have a great relationship with my pool builder who is a hardworking person who did what he said he'd do and did it with professionalism.

I was a customer of Mystic Pools and my experience was completely different. I also know these people and know they are not frauds or crooks. They did the best they could for their customers in a very competitive business where the customer is always trying to wring out that little bit of extra free stuff on an already good deal. The person who reported the personal information on these individuals is totally misinformed and ought to be ashamed of themselves for printing such garbage. Well here is the truth Sunshine. These people are just like you and I. They did buy a new home but not the way you tell it - THE BANKS OWNS IT UNTIL IT IS PAID FOR. They also had a home they traded in on the new one. You can revel in the fact they are probably not going to be able to keep their home. They also did not buy the cars in the manner you said they did - same thing they bought their cars like most of America does - THE BANK OWNS THEM UNTIL THEY ARE PAID FOR. As for the vacations - they have not taken lavish vacations - I could have taken the trips they have taken and I am not rich and I definitely would not consider them lavish. The trips were a gift to the family and what will probably annoy you the most is they received the gifts because they are nice hardworking people. As for not working with people who have been hurt by their inability to proceed with the business - another untruth. They are actively working with those people who wish to work with them. Get a life Sunshine and try and find something else to do with your life like helping the poor in Tucson rather than subscribing to the RubbishReport. If I was these people I would be suing you for defamation. I will be one of many people who will stand up for these people along with a substantial amount of others. The only difference between you and I is that you have to post garbage like this on a public forum and hope somebody takes the bait so you have some support - I do not. I already know where all the support is.
