Navy Federal Credit Union

1/25/2012
I have been a member for 10 yrs.  Most of the staff at Navy Federal are rude and disrespectful, with a total disregard for common curtesy.  I was recently pre approved for a specific amount on a home loan.  I found a house, signed the contract, then I was told that I was approved for 25,000 less than the intial offer.

I had already put a deposit down on the house, and paid for an inspection!!  The loan officer was incredibly rude, unhelpful, and unintelligent.  She didn't even remember who I was.

I showed her the intial pre-approval documents, and she did nothing about it.  How could my financial status change that much in one month?  I felt like a was conducting a bussiness transaction in some ghetto back alley.

The staff acted like they were too lazy to even look into why the initial preapproval changed.  Too lazy to use their minds to find an alternative solution. The truth is Navy Federal doesn't care about the individual bank member. Don't join this bank!!!

Did you actually apply for a mortgage loan, pay the credit fee and were approved? Or did you do a per-qualification? If you only did the pre-qual at first, then no that is not a guarantee that we will lend to you. The pre-qual does not count your credit score or all of your debts. I disagree that most of our staff is rude and disrespectful. I was a member for almost 20 years before I became an employee and always received excellent service. Of course occasionally, you will find someone that doesn't care but that is the except and not the norm.

It may not have been your financial status that changed,...

it could have been the housing market in your area.  This is assuming you haven't made any large purchases or opened any new lines of credit recently.  Chances are, Navy Federal's appraiser appraised the house at a value lower than your agreed to purchase price.  In this economy, no mortgage lender will loan you more than the appraised value.  Pre-approvals are conditional and appraised value is one of the conditions.  You should have been informed of this.  Looks like you may need to come up with a down payment or find a more affordable house.  Good luck with your search.
