I signed up for a "free" trial of Citratone skin care cream after taking a survey on LinkedIn. Well, as it turns out, signing up for the free trial also enrolled me in a monthly subsrciption purchase of citratone for nearly $100 a month, which was automatically billed to my credit card starting in month two with no notice given to me.
Thankfully, I sensed that something might be wrong when i received a second shipment, and never opened the second jar of cream. Then my credit card company called me to say they detected unusual activity on my account - an expensive monthly subsctiption.
This tipped me off. I called VitaHealth / Nutracare's customer service line. I told the representative to close my account, cancel the subscription, and that I had an unopened jar that I wanted to return for a full refund.
She said I could get a full refund if I returned the jar by mail, minus a $9.95 restocking fee. Another option would have been to not mail the jar back and receive a 45% refund.
The customer service agent was polite and helpful. Here's hoping I get the refund she promised!
DO NOT fall for "free" samples of anything online. Nothing is ever free.
