On April 23, 2002 we drove to indiana to buy a ocicat from what we thought was a very reputable breeder. Kate Bynum after all was president of the national Ocicat Association. We had only a 24 hour return policy on the kitten. Buy the time we bought the kitten in Indiana and drove home to Ohio and took the kitten to the Vet the next day April 24, 2002 our 24 hour return window was gone. The cat was examined on April 24, 2002 and found to be infested with ring worm due to unsanitary living conditions.

Ringworm by the way is contagious to humans. Myself and two little boys also got ringworm and had to be treated. After several vet appointments to get the ringworm cleared up we then had the cat fixed per our contract with the breeder. So now we have not only paid $400.00 for our cat but also have aquired $391.00 in vet bills. But all of this was over looked because we adored our beautiful ocicat. Our ocicat just died 2/13/06 of a genetic disease caused from inbreeding. Our beloved cat is very missed. I would not recommend buying a kitten from catoninetails. Kate Bynum was not honest with us about the health of our cat or about her breeding habits.

Kate Bynum - Catoninetails.com Cattery 'business' is being promoted on this website:(((Redacted))) (owner: Marie Giammarino).

Given the horrible stories I heard about Kate's cattery and Marie's website actually recommends her work, I will be avoiding all breeders in Marie's lists!

Kittens that struggle to survive  4 years of life? They both should be prosecuted...

Every kitten leaves with a 3-page signed contract with a return policy-there is no such thing as a 24-return policy here: please read on for the first two paragraphs of my contract that is used world wide by breeders.

SECTION ONE (1) - HEALTH GUARANTEE

Within a period of seventy-two (72) hours from the time Cat/Kitten(s) leaves the possession of the seller/breeder, buyer agrees to have this feline examined by a licensed veterinarian of their choice (before entering new home if other cats are present) to certify such health. Thereby, relieving seller/breeder of all future claims. We also suggest buyer place the new arrival in quarantine during this time, if not longer. Be certain to have your vet report to us any medical deficiency within said time. Catoninetail Cattery is checked yearly for FIV and FELINE LEUKEMIA virus with continued negative response to said testing. To date there are no known accurate tests for FIP disease therefore no future guarantees against FIP are being given with this animal. Seller/breeder cannot control whether said feline is exposed to said viruses' after leaving seller/breeder's Catoninetail Cattery. This feline is delivered to the buyer in a healthy condition. Seller/breeder has no control over this feline's environment after acceptance by buyer, and therefore does not guarantee continued good health. Seller/breeder explicitly reserves all Rights, Priveleges, Immunities, without prejudice to seller and non-assumpsit to all others.

SECTION TWO (2) - FELINE RETURNS

If the Cat/Kitten/feline(s) is medically deficient, it may be returned to us (within the seventy-two (72) hour period) and we will cheerfully refund your purchase price. Under no circumstance will we accept a cat/kitten back after the guarantee period has expired without prior-to -sales written agreement and/or if the Cat/Kitten has been exposed to another cat that has not been currently tested for FELV. and FIV. ETC. Should the Cat/Kitten die within twelve (12) months as a direct result of an unknown (at the time of the sale) CONGENITAL DEFECT will be replaced only if an appropriate autopsy is performed by a veterinarians laboratory, or university such as Purdue University, a detailed autopsy report will be provided to the breeder/seller as proof of cause of death. Under no circumstances will an animal be replaced without a detailed autopsy report as described above. A letter from your veterinarian is not sufficient evidence of cause of death and will not be acceptable. If feline is to be replaced, it will be replaced at breeders discretion when a replacement feline is available.

The buyer assumes all responsibility of all expenses incurred in relation to the Cat/Kitten after said Cat/Kitten leaves the possession of the seller/breeder, and any expense incurred at the request of the buyer. If for any reason the Cat/Kitten is returned, the seller/breeder must be notified immediately, and return made within the seventy-two (72) hour period (three working days) unless other arrangements are mutually agreed upon. The buyer agrees to pay all expenses including but not limited to mileage, shipping and reexamination expense of the seller/breeder's veterinarian.

I got two ocicats from Kate way back in june of 1995. Both cats had genetic food allergies and were not well. I had to put one down after numerous vet bills and heartache at age 9, and the other I simply must manage. He now at age 13 has kidney troubles. I will be looking to purchase 2 more ocicats and believe me I will never go back to Kate, she sells sick cats. I am sure you and I are not alone.
